I agree there's some fun and interesting folks here.  It's the only forum I find myself checking daily (multiple times).

#5 is totally true.  I end up on Google a lot thinking "I don't think that word means what they think it means..."  I still have never wrapped my head around "pants".

You're doing it the wrong way round. You wrap the pants around your head! Then two drum sticks up the nose, make bleating noises and get invalided out to Blighty for being mad!

Being conscious of this thread's original points, Valerie Singleton was the co-presenter of a hugely successful children's TV show called Blue Peter, back in the days when The BBC took it's duty to Educate the Masses very seriously, that is when TV was in black and white and 405 lines.

Ah yes, from the same era as when they made documentaries blaming the fall of the Roman Empire on socialism and immigrants. Still, at least it was presented by a very plummy chap who evidently went to the right school and wasn't some oik from the regions, judging by accent and tie.

Indeed, I personally attribute the arrival of that whippersnapper John Noakes with his non RP voice and collie marked the start of Aunty's slow decline which has brought us to East Enders and Strictly Come Dancing

If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Thanks for the detailed responses, Gentlemen. I'm my world complements, opinions and questions always obligate a response. I'll have to respond in chunks* however having gotten a database warning on the length of my posts -uh -  no, moderators -  just kidding!

As to documentation to educational level. While it is true that I hold a few university degrees ( none of them in English), my research shows that these would be equivalent to one or two A levels on your side of the pond. Many of you have that (and more) and the rest are a d**d canny lot!

* For how else will I ever achieve Brigadier in a reasonable time frame
