I was half-expecting submarines - but movement in the deep would be tricky, nice for shoals and mud banks though. Certainly a great idea - closer to genius than madness IMO

In fact it rather reminds me of the 3d Space Hulk games we used to play, err 30 years ago [cripes!] - involving 3 sheets of Perspex and acrylic pillars.

Madness! But beautiful madness. It's a little disconcerting that the headlands, islands and rocks are just floating on the surface, however.  This again demonstrates that in wargaming, just as in life, everything is about camera angles.

Looks like an advertisement for rum.

I really like the visual effect it creates, but knowing my usual group of players someone would end up knocking the top layer over... or at least giving it a really solid bump.

Damned nice idea but I'd like to see the islands extend under the sea. That's me just being picky

I like it! 

Great for identifying shallow areas, sand banks, reefs, minefields, etc. and it provides a handy storage area for sunken ships - in situ !  Submarines? Probably not - whole point is not to be seen, surely? Mind you, I suppose it would be useful for 'close to surface' operations (e.g., periscope depth, sneaking into harbours when torpedo nets are opened to let other traffic through, etc.). 

 

It'll be broken in a week.

Not really sold on the concept. Could be made more stable by just putting the transparent sheet on paper cut-outs to get the same effect.


I do love the islands though, they look great!

I suppose for added realism, you could just put a glass sheet over an aquarium?

I really like that!  I don't see many games at the shows that are '3D' in the sense of adding height and levels to them, so I always find it interesting when we see things like this.

Very nice...but...couldn't a similar effect be produced by laying the top sheet directly on top of the lower sheet? If there's no need to move subs then why have the gap?

Also, and this is a pet peeve of mine, it would look much nicer if the playing area wasn't cluttered up with dice and play sheets. Why spend time making nice terrain if you're only going to cover it with rule books, dice and measuring tapes.

Finally, notice the kid playing his computer game?
