I didn't understand any of your post after the first sentence. My fault. You speak a language I don't really understand - American - and use acronyms that to me have subtly different meaning. I used to work in a munitions stationery factory and the acronyms meants something slightly different. DBN meant "Double Bend North" i.e. the item was to be folded twice on the northern (longest axis). Typically this is seen in official letters where the address is to be displayed in a C5 windowed envelope. DBA was slightly confusingly "Don't Bend Anytime"and was used to indicate that the item was not to be bent at all. An example would be a certificate or something that was perhaps to be displayed in a frame. "DBA-HX" was a special category of "Don't Bend Anytime - High eXplosive". This was for a few items which were to be sent to enemies of the system, suspected waiverers to the cause and boy bands. These items were impregnated with a highly combustable compund which when compressed by folding or scruching would immediately explode, rendering the folder (or scruncher) slightly the worse for wear.  There were of course, grades of DBA-HX. The DBA-HX 1.0 would definitely kill, but for warnings there was DBA-HX 3.0 - 3.5 which simply coloured the recipient increasngly strong shades of orange.  This meant that those who had been warned could immediately be spotted by true servants of the state. My last job at the factory was to send 14 letters of DBA HX 3.5 to a Mr D Trump.

Hi Terry, welcome to the Forum!

What a wonderful welcome! And some questions that I will try to answer. Of course first I really must reply to fsn as his/her reply was so amusing. Yes, the last time I checked it was Mr. Not always, but usually the female version spells their name ending in an "i".

I also have to thank you for the wonderful education on explosives. More on this in a bit. Now about those acronyms, actually  those acronyms are not American but borrowed from the UK where all of the rules originated. I guess I could more easily say that I play DBA based games, which all of those rule sets are. I played one game and instantly fell in love with the concept, and for me it is so perfect because the armies are small so my very slow painting still allows me to build armies, to play a game needs only a 24 inch board, some bits of terrain, the armies, one die, a six inch measuring stick and about an hour of time.

Now, as to the explosives, not directly, but my other worldly pursuit is Cowboy Action Shooting as a member of SASS (an American acronym for Single Action Shooting Society). We don't use a lot of bombs and such, but on occasion have fired a small cannon to announce the start of the safety meeting before a match. To get a better idea, you can see me in a video here

I finished the last two elements for the opposing Red Skull army this morning and will shortly hit them with a couple of coats of clear for protection and then glue them to their bases. Once that's dried I'll start doing the bases and get them ready for play. I also am closing in on  the Strongholds for both these armies. Pictures shortly.

SV52, not sure where you're located but you might be interested in the International Good, Bad and Ugly HotT Tournament. It's played in 11 locations, we call Legs, in four countries. if you're interested let me know and we can see which location might be closest to you.

However, this tournament is played in the October/November time frame and both of those locations have already played. Techno, I figured fsn was a gentleman, as my reference was a bit tongue in cheek in reply to his post, which I truly loved and got quite a chuckle from.

fsn, you are a most observant gentleman. Yes we are only allowed to load five rounds in our six shooters for safety reasons. The sport is great fun, but as we are using live ammo, safety is always number 1. Every match is started with a safety meeting, and we are never allowed to carry a loaded weapon except to go from the loading table to the shooting stage. We have both a loading table where you go when your turn to shoot is coming up, and you must show the person manning that table that your guns are unloaded, and then you load them while they observe. Then you have to show that your pistols are on an empty cylinder. Once you are at the firing stage, you cannot traverse you weapons past the 170 degree line and you may not to take a step with a loaded gun. Once you finish shooting you must go immediately to the unloading table to show that person that all of your guns are completely empty. We are also required to wear ear plugs and safety glasses, and trust me you will not get through the day without getting hit by shrapnel (we use special cowboy load ammo, which also has a soft lead bullet which splatters when it hist the target). We are also required to wear cowboy attire, so playing dress up is as much a part of it as the shooting.

A cowboy shooter is required to have two six shooters, a Winchester type rifle and a period style shotgun. I have a matched pair of Ruger Vaqueros that I dearly love for my six shooters, a Marlin Winchester with an octagon barrel, and a Stoger double barrel, double trigger coach gun is my shotgun. My pistol leather is custom made from my design, also which I am very proud of.  We all go by a cowboy (cowgirl) alias and mine is HT Terry, the HT standing for Hare Trigger. Lastly, this is a family sport, and we have shooters as young as 10 shooting. TN Missy is one of the better young shooters and she just turned 14.

It does all seem rather exotic and edgy.

UK gun laws would suggest that anyone with 2 hand guns, a rifle and a shotgun should be descended upon by armed police at 2am.

You need a licence to buy a replica gun that dates before 1880 or something like that.

One of the forum members is in Shetland as I recall, pretty sure he's mentioned HOTT in the past, may even have participated in the tournament. Both locations are problematic for me so unlikely to participate but will follow it with interest in '17.

HI Terry,

The videos looked fun.  I shoot Clay pigeon, single shot .22Lr target rifle and a 10/22 Ruger semi-auto done up like an AR 15.

As FSN says the gun laws over here are tight to say the least, but full of strange anomalies because most of them have been a "Knee jerk" reaction to something without it being thought through.

Obviously I also wargame in varied periods and scales.
