Well, it's round three and I haven't caused one Macedonian casualty yet. :(

Whereas my Corinthians have broken in the centre, and the Prodromoi are on the rear of my C-in-C's hoplites, having brushed aside my Greek horse. This wouldn't be too bad, if there weren't also some Hetairoi in front of them, led by that pesky blond prince....

My Athenians have just managed to charge the Thessalians (led by Philip!); not one dam' casualty!

Lee makes the Ney mistake; forces me onto the defensive with a strong cavalry attack, but fails to support it with infantry.

Athenians safe but useless. The LC held the prodromoi off for a while, though by the end of the game the Cretans had looted my camp anyway.

The cavalry assault was called off, but a rapid Spartan move took out the hetairoi and the prince. Philip was driven off with the Thessalians, but regrettably got away and rallied.  My left and centre were caught up in a long and frustrating struggle against the Macedonian foot by now. Pikes hit hard, but those big Greek shields are useful too.

When the Greek morale started to go wobbly, Lee got excited at her impending victory and forgot to take further photographs. This is one of the last, with mercenary thureophoroi driving Corinthians crazy by running away fifty paces every time the hoplites are about to win, and Thebans finding out that shouting "Zeus hates straights" is not enough to bring them a few sixes.
In the distance, the Argives rout after a brave stand; the Spartans were soon to follow. BTW, I am aware that historically the Spartans decided that Macedonia wasn't important enough to be worth sending an army to this battle.

Did the ancient Greeks really form square? I've never come across that before.

They even marched in square in some cases. See Xenophon.

Now you mention it I remember that episode, but I'm still a little vague on battlefield squares.
