After the recent "Brexit" vote (No I am not doing a political thread) it was suggested we had an "Independence day" holiday. particularly as the UK is rather short on Public Holidays compared to its neighbours


I would like to slightly amend this.  I suggest that we have a Public Holiday for each of out Colonies that we have graciously given Independence to.  This would give us an additional 53 public holidays

Can we split these three please, say 1st, 2nd & 3rd Oct, then since my Grandad was heavily involved in Nigeria's independence negotiations (MBE from the Nigerian Government) , I can have my birthday in October off!

These are the dates that they were granted independence not necessarily their Independence day. eg USA is the date the Treaty of Paris was signed.
