All,

And here is the second post in my blogpost festival.  These are Peter Pig 15mm Modern US Marines; I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with them with regards to gaming, but they will see the table sooner rather than later as I absolutely love these figures and I've got too many ideas for modern campaigns.  Awhile back I painted up a few test figures: one in Temperate Marine Pattern (MARPAT) camouflage, one in Desert MARPAT, one in Arctic clothing, and one in Desert Tri-Color cammies with green gear and body armor.  I solicited comments on the look of the camo... and received none, so I went with what I thought looked right, and so here we are, a platoon (roughly) of Marines in Temperate MARPAT.

The whole force, 23 Marines with various weapons and poses.  I bought one set of each: standing rifle, kneeling rifle, signalling M-203, firing M-203, moving M-249, firing M-249, AT4, one of the leader packs, and a pack of Navy Corpsmen.  I divided them into four equal groups (with a couple spares) and painted them up.  I wish I'd bought more so I would have done larger platoons, but these will work.  The concept I'm working with is a single platoon of Marines that I'll follow through adventures in temperate, tropical, desert, and arctic climates.

To see close-ups of each pose, please check the blog at:

Well, that's all until tomorrow.  Let me know what ya think, and I'll keep working on writing up these batreps.

Very tasty!

We're about to get into Black Ops and I'm hoping for 15mm... I suspect we'll end up in 20mm but hey. Maybe 10mm for 'Nam...

They are lovely figures and their best range IMHO. I had a load for Force-on-Force but sold them on after the rules proved to be such a let down. In fact they were bl**dy awful!

Nicely done :)

Had a great game of Black Ops the other week - am now thinking of doing 28mm Nam (again, I think this would be about the 3rd time I've done it...)

Always nice to get feedback! I got a quick solo game in at the club last night as a tester (everyone else doing D&D and I was very late due to rescheduled Mrs Pixie's exercise class!), and it seems to run nicely. Gave me a chance to use my 10mm French-Indo China which are on CWC sized "squad bases" but that didn't seem to matter.

I'll stick a batrep on the "last played thread" :)

Suspect we're going 20mm though for real, sadly, as club mates have old figures they want to use :(

Thanks guys, glad you like them, and I agree they are Peter Pig's best range.

I liked the original Force on Force, played it quite a bit, but the Osprey one changed some things and I wasn't really a fan.  I don't play it anymore as I don't like it solo.  Similarly, I bought Black Ops but it didn't really strike a chord with me, so I'll probably look to sell them off soon (with a bunch of others).

Tried Black Ops at Salute when demoed pre-release and they didn't really grab me. To be honest I'm struggling to enjoy modern skrimish games, despite there being a wealth of lovely figures and vehicles out there.

Steve,

First, if by skirmish you mean one man is man, and each man activates individually, I have some recommendations.  I personally like pretty simple rules, so I use 5 Men in Normandy/at Kursk and have a great time.  If you're looking for a step up in complexity, there are Matt's "Some Corner of a Foreign Field," which I played a about 25 games with and had a great time (want to get back to them, but can never find the time).  For another step up in complexity (at least in my opinion), there are Ben Lacy's "SOF Warrior" (based off his WWII skirmish rules, "Final Combat"), and Skirmish Sangin.

Jack
