good evening everyone!!
I proposes to you a small step by step of technique I use for 10mm figures in version "I abusing a little bit, but I like it !!"
So it will be with a tirailleur Corsica ...... it's a bit long, but you'll really every step of progress ......
and advance forgiveness for some slightly blurry pictures, not easy as close to perfect
Let's go!!

So, the first step after the under black coat, I start with the flesh to give life about
basecoat brown mahogany and medium flesh followed by a bright light flesh: ..........

........ Then I place the white: with khaki brown base, a first cleared khaki beige, and finally, one last white light broken ..... to give depth to the white and mislead the eye see those finer details that are not really:

....... Now I do the bases distinctive green and one lighting a warmer tone, it is important to 10mm, to consider the readability, so I always prefer to be a little more clearly, the reality:

....... Then I paint all the bases brown parts, and also here, only one enlightenment is enough:

Well, it begins to take shape right? ......... Now, I treat metal parts, gold and silver ...... here, no light, but it happens to me to if necessary:

all details being laid, I finally paint the basis of uniform with two cleared up:

for (almost) finish, I paint the base in tone earth to help me during the basing, a little lack of flocking will not have, and it avoids having to put glue come too close to the precious figurine:

Finally, the ultimate detail, few buttons to perfect everything:

now, you know everything, but in fact nothing new
of course, it's pretty rough with such expansion, but when they are thirty, and viewed remotely games, it does it well, you will see as soon as they are doing !!

see you soon!!

Rimmer: "Aliens."

Lister: "Oh God, aliens... Your explanation for anything slightly peculiar is aliens, isn't it?

Rimmer: "Well, we didn't use it all, Lister. Who did?"

Lister: "Rimmer, aliens used our bog roll?"

thank you!!
I love this range (napoleonic revolution), it is old, but with lots of character, and very detailed, I just recut the bayonets, a real pleasure to paint ........ shame that the range does is not more complete !!
is not it Léon??

Thanks for a very interesting tutorial :-\

One question, why do you do the main uniform after the details?

One question, why do you do the main uniform after the details?

I often get asked the question
by habit now, but in fact, I find the details easier to see early on the black background, and when exceeded, no need to touch up, I make directly with the color of the uniform finish
it seems strange, but for me, it is more difficult and long time to paint the uniform leaving all the black details as we tend to do too much, making it to the end, the surface is very small and I see best areas to avoid

Subedai

Great tutorial and another interesting insight into the way people paint.

Now I paint in almost the exact opposite way to you, covering the largest areas first and then working up to the smaller. Flesh is one of the last colours to go on unless we are talking about semi- or completely naked fanatical types when it becomes a main colour. I only use a single highlight colour because at my age -60- I want to get them on the table sooner rather than later.

Far more urgent fish to be fried first.

Thanks Eric, I suspected that was why you did it last.

I use a similar approach to Subedai so found it quite different to do the main colour last.

Eric, thanks so much for taking the time to do the detailed step-by-step and sharing it with us. And yes - it does run counter to the method I picked up in the early 1970's. You certainly cannot argue with results, however, stunning!  :-bd :-bd

Subedai mentioned his goal at age 60, as I approach 70 I am just happy to be able to work on this stuff on a regular basis. I do hope to use your tips (and others) to garner at least one vote in the next people's choice  - take that fsn!  :)

An excellent little tutorial :).

fred.

Great photo tutorial Eric. Its really interesting to see how other people go about painting. Your approach seems similar to that used by some of the very good 28mm painters - and it gives great results in 10mm.

As several of the others have said, I tend to paint the opposite way, going with base colour first - mainly to look like I'm making lots of progress. Then add in a few details later.
