Wow, really nice work. Looks like the BBC got War and Peace wrong putting the Austerlitz French in shakos. I had previously noted that they had also put the Austerlitz Russians in the kiwer. I'm sure they did much better research in the 1972 production of War and Peace.

Leman - I, too, spotted that but I rationalised the uniform inaccuracies as being an economic measure seeing they would also be covering the 1812 campaign in subsequent episodes.    :-B
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

indeed, the french "Shako" has been increased only from 1807 (along with the white uniform), the French carry both during the battles of Wagram and Friedland
and this is the same period as the russian "cylindrical hat" will become the "kiwers" with cord ....... they wore the hat until 1803 with a lighter green uniform

and yes, cinema as on our gaming tables, errors are commonplace for economic reasons ........
we must recognize that Napoleon did not help us work for 20 year campaign !!!

Can anyone else remember the 1970s War and Peace series starring Anthony Hopkins as Pierre. I'm sure the uniforms changed with the passing of time.
