Irregular 6mm

Hey guys

I haven't ordered any irregular 6mm for some years and the last lot I bought was fromnEureka who had copies of the moulds but unfortunately seemed to have been used too much so the castings weren't great. Has anyone ordered 6mm from irregular recently and are are castings OK?

If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

They look better painted and from normal tabletop distance than the castings suggest raw.

IMHO, there is an element of Gilbert & Sullivans "Trial By Jury" about them in that they look better "in the dusk, with a light behind."

Service from Irregular has always been tip-top it must be said.

I prefer Baccus and Rapier 6mm to Irregular. The former two being compatible sizewise helps. Baccus have always been brilliant in my experience, Rapier are "nice toys but sometimes erratic delivery times." That said their Sumerians have been well worth the delivery delays!

Personal preference is naturally a personal thing and others may disagree.

I have shedloads of Irregular 6mm and over the years have noticed there is a marked difference in quality from one range to the next which I put down to the age of the mould. I would also agree with Ithoriel and if memory serves they won awards at Derby several years on the trot for their excellent service. If you say that these are copies then that could be the problem. I would suggest going straight to Irregular in future.

On another note, I have just taken delivery of some of the rather nice Rapier 6mm Macedonian Companions and prodromoi cavalry and can say they are pretty close to H&R in size as well.

I use Irregular 6mm for all sorts of mid-C19th conflicts with BBB and for WWI with GWSH2. The ranges tend to be very complete or easily made up from other areas, e.g.. Mexican Adventure Republican infantry make great FPW Garde Mobile. similarly Crimean British Horse Artillery make great FPW French Guard Artillery, and so on. Many, though not all, strips have figures in a variety of poses and also vary between strips in the same code. As above, they look much better painted than in the raw.

[My experience]
The polite descriptive term is 'character.' They've got 'character.' Some scale creep within ranges. ECW pike go well with Heroics & Ros musketeers. Odd leg missing in some ECW pike strips. Irregular musketeers a bit bigger than pike. Don't get ECW Scottish Lancers - more like 10 mm.  Similar casting issues with Napoleonic French infantry. Service is generally good. Only blip was once when I ordered some D4 and got D8 instead with the explanation 'don't have any in stock but here are D8s - just half the score(!)' I already had loads of D8s (more D8s - just what I needed. Not.) Bottom line is - they're 6mm (who is going to see the imperfections at that scale), reasonably priced and generally OK. 
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

I only have their 2mm models, so can't comment on their 6'es, but the point made about good service is very true!

I've used them in my time, but I certainly thought H. and R. were more rewarding. Ankles often flimsy, horses badly proportioned, weak animation, and those bases with six figures on a thick strip of metal; these were frequent problems. I think their 10mm ranges are far more useful, though pricey.
