Cornwell's Dark Age saga, on BBC 2 with first episode currently on iPlayer.  Please don't wade in with the usual inaccurate waffle (or if you must, start your own thread), take it as it comes -ENTERTAINMENT!

I'd seen trailers for this, I'll have to catch it on demand probably.

Is it heresy to say that I thought the books were disappointing?

The talking books weren't bad. (To me, anyway)........Though they did get a bit samey in the end.

Saw it yesterday and liked it.

Books were OK but not his best.

I ve watched the first two and the second is better than the first, looking forward to the third now

It was it started on BBC America the week before the UK. I just did some nsughty downloading of it

I've just downloaded the first one from iPlayer and set the Sky+ to record them each week.  Might wait for a few to stack up before starting to watch them though.

Not bad I thought but much prefer the 'Vikings' tv series that's been on the past few years. I thought the story rather similar to his Arthurian Warlord Chronicles. Also visually it was a bit dark, gloomy and rather monochrome. I reminded of a comment regarding the Brother Cadfael tv series where the producers had to make it look dirty and dingy as the public wouldn't believe it was relativively clean and colourful. Well I suppose you can't have everything.

Enjoyed it. Haven't read the books and as long as its taken as entertainment as opposed to factual history, I'm all for it.

Thought MacFadyen's brief appearance was his usual stoic self and it was good to see Rutger's cameo. Looking forward to more of this. Beats the sh*t out of the reality dross that is perpetuated on every other channel.....

A friend put his pre-school age son to bed and settled down with his wife to watch this.

At the point in the battle where the young Uhtred sees his father killed they become aware that their son has come padding down and is stood in the doorway watching the TV.

Cue hasty pausing of programme and herding of son back to bed.

Concerned that his son might have been disturbed by what he saw he gently broached the question of whether his son had any questions.

"Yeeees," came the rather puzzled reply,"I thought in those days everything was in black and white?" #thewisdomofchildren

Nowadays, like Worzel Gummidge of old,  I take off my historical head while watching 'drama' shows and put on my TV watching head, then I just sit down and enjoy the programme...which I did.
