I'm really admiring your perseverance with these Will ;)

Form the top of my head I have had the following Samurai Projects over the years none of which are still in my possession:

28mm Samurai - cant even remember the manufacturer but it may have been foundry. I even had the Samurai Walled Residence from an now defunct company called Village Green. This was the only collection I ever finished and all I can remember is that I sold the lot on and got far less than I paid for them.....

I had a 15mm Two Dragons Samurai army for WRG Renaissance which remained in its bags unloved for far too long before being sold off for far less than I paid for it.

I also had a 15mm Lancashire Games Samurai Army which I gave away as I was so appalled by the figures.

I then bought a Pendraken Samurai Army maybe three or four years ago which again I sold on for far less than I paid for them.

Anyone see a theme emerging here?? ;D
I don't think my wife likes me very much, when I had a heart attack she wrote for an ambulance.

At the mo the only Samurai I own is the 6mm one I painted earlier this year. If I did another, no way would I go larger than 10's, it gets too complicated and life is too short.

Which of the Kurosawa films is it that has a fantastic scene in a field camp? Is it "Ran"?

Don't let that put you off. It's a cracking story, without a "thee" or a "varlet" in sight.

Once you've watched "Ran" move on to "Kagemusha."

As to encampments, some ideas:

That's kind of where I'm going, adding an extra side to my preexisting general, and a tree...

I'm kind of liking the idea of an oriental army in the next few years, if I sent you a list of figures, do you think you could buy them, keep them in a cupboard for a couple of years, then I'd be happy to take them off your hands for half price?   ;)

No?

Oh, well.

ML - thats a good looking start - and a general's enclosure would be very cool

Ran is a stone cold masterpiece, its the film that got me into Samurai warfare. Kagemusha is great, though it can at times feel like a long sit at times. However it does give an interesting perspective on the demise of the Takeda clan, which is a very familiar story to anyone who studies the period, and has plenty of arresting scenes.

However it does give an interesting perspective on the demise of the Takeda clan, which is a very familiar story to anyone who studies the period, and has plenty of arresting scenes.

Kagemusha is the story of a Takeda lord's double who is used to maintain the fiction that the lord is alive after his death to protect the Takeda clan's status and position. In this scene the double's aides are worried that others will find out he is an impostor

Masakage Yamagata: Little Takemaru was a problem, but the horse is worse. It can tell. Only the late lord could ride it.
Nobufusa Baba: If the double falls off, everyone will suspect.
Nobukado Takeda: Lord Shingen has been ill. He must refrain from riding.
Masakage Yamagata: Good idea.
Masatane Hara: There are many other problems. We must be careful to keep the late lord's intentions.
Katsusuke Atobe: Tonight he will have to meet the late lord's mistresses. How will he be with them?
Masakage Yamagata: Our master has been ill. He must refrain from riding.

The spectacle is wonderful in Kurosawa, but he had no idea of what happens on a battlefield.
