Im finally trying to get a bit of work done on my Warband dwarves.  I have the army set and several packs of add-ons.   Units of infantry are 25 figures/pack.  I can only fit about 10-12 figures per base without it being too cluttered. (for me anyway)  I like to leave a small space around the edge and a spot for the dice frame.

Any one else do this?  How many fit the full 25 ?  Or do you use less?

This will just give me more bases/units for my army.  :)

What looks right to you.

I'm using 4x8 bases. So far I've done 10-12 for ghouls and werewolves but I suspect my lepers will be 16-18.

Im using Dwarves and want a "formed" look with straight orderly ranks, so 10-12 have been working for me.  Disorderly mobs of filthy greenskins can probably fit alot more.

I can get about 8 figures on a 40x20 base!

I'd have thought 25 would be easy on 100x50, you could probably get 40+ if you rank them up tight.

I know some of the Fantasty ranges have fairly large bases, but 10-12 sounds pretty sparse.

Looks great!
I like a little room along the edges of the base and a spot for a dice frame.  I also space my figs a little further apart.

Here's a work in progress from a couple of weeks ago.
I've rebased some and fitted sabots to some others as you can see, trying to keep the same sort of spacing per base as I had on my 60x30s...
Barbarians in my mind would be in fairly lose order anyway. You can also see a scout base with only about 8 figures on, a generals base with about ten and a shaman base with about five as I want them to look like the rest of the army is staying well clear!
Mounted work well without ranks with about 8-12. My dragon men have a few more.

Im thinking more like this:

(all rights to slimreidy/Hunswickian blog)

looks to about 12+ figs/base. Certainly not 25.

Have to say I like my close formed-infantry and cavalry bases packed to capacity.

12 figures on a 100mm x 50mm might do for skirmishers but it looks pretty empty to me. I'm wondering if I can pack 12 Warmaster HE infantry strips onto a Warband base which would give me 72 figures arranged in 6 ranks and 12 files which begins to look like a unit.

As always, each to their own though.

I'm not sure you will get 12 WM strips on a Warband base, 10 should definately be doable.

If you are able to snip some strips in half you could get 2.5 across, and 5 deep. Which would be 90 figures, which would look good.

A Warband pike base could look very impressive. Hmm....

Hi all

I just got a copy of the rules and I really like the feel of them. Looking forward to first games. Now, I am gonna put my head on the block and ask...

Has anyone used 28mm figs?
I have a lot of 28s that have been sitting around for ages so i am considering rebasing them for Warband. I was thinking of increasing the base sizes but i think this may effect play to some degree. I love the idea of vignettes but this may be tough with larger scales on 100x50mm

Any thoughts ?  (am i a heretic?)

cheers

Sir!

Welcome.

There are some reports using 28mm figures - I think they used 120mm frontages.

As the rules are all in Base Widths it should all work fine. You might need a slightly larger table, but 6x4 seems to have a fair bit of space with 100mm frontages. You will also need to know your 12 times table  ;)

A very warm welcome to the forum, MB.  :-h

Sorry. :( Can't answer your question, though.
Something (at the back of my tiny mind) is telling me that either someone has asked this question before.....OR.....Someone has already adapted the rules to use larger figures.
I'm sure they'll be along soon, to give you the 'heads up'.

(Yes !....You are a heretic !  ;))

Thx for the welcome folks.

I know 'bad language' can be shocking!  I love the look of 10mm and I play lots of 6mm ancients. Its just I have these figs lying around and want to use them lol - if not they will have to go! (which of course could fund a 10mm project....nooooooo!   dont even think it!

I thought about 120mm as it might look better and it fits with other games' base sizes. However, 100x50 is so terribly neat and easy to calculate lol

I am wondering if 120 will make a huge difference in table space. Do you find that 100mm on 6'x4' leaves a lot of flanking space and would it be hugely constricted if there were 3-4 less basewidths available?
