Anyone know why CD's from Japan are SO pricey ?

I looked up a not particularly desperate 'want' on Amazon.
Only available as a Japanese import for £66.

Certainly wasn't remotely interested at that price.....Somewhere around £10 I'd have gone for.
"I know," thought I.....I'll look it up on Amazon Japan, and use some contacts to get it for me over there.

"Aha .......Found it !".......Now what does 8,000 Yen equate to ?.....About £42 apparently.......Still WAY, WAY too pricey.

My question is why such inflated prices over there ?.......Are they "better quality".....Or was it expensive, because there's unlikely to be much demand for it ?

I think in general everything in Japan is expensive
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

I've bought CDs in Japan; they were very reasonably priced. They must be paying a lot to cross frontiers.

Thanks, chaps.

This particular album just seems very pricey, even in Japan.
Looking around the Amazon Japan site......Not ALL CD's are daft prices.

This one must just be a bit obscure, with little demand.
'Knowing' how the music industry works, for some of the stuff I like, it'll probably be released on a budget label at some time, anyway.

Btw, Japan's not as pricey as people think. I've been twice, and fully intend to go again, maybe taking my women with me.

I've lived in many countries. You learn to improvise, and take advantage of the widespread use of English. Lee had the worse time, since the Japanese would look at my red-bearded Celtic face, then at her east Asian face, and proceed to speak to her at great length, ignoring her protestations that she was Thai and spoke less Japanese than I do, and also ignoring her face, which doesn't look remotely Japanese (she's of Chinese stock).
Curiously, I think the place where I've felt most alien while speaking English was actually New York!

Just worked out what MIL was. Initially, I thought you'd just left off a letter, then I contemplated rural structures ("Mare Inducing Ledge", "Minor Incineration Lodge", perhaps "Marmalade Investment Lattice") ... then it struck me that you must have brought down a Russian helicopter with the Bren (for which, "Kudos" by the way).

In the wee small hours, I realised that you meant the Mother In Law. I do hope she did not sustain too much injury, but since you were "twitting" about, I imagine it may have been somewhat serious.

I do hope that all is well.

Hope she is all ok mate.

I had a horrid M-I-L.  Managed to dispose of her when I got rid of the W.I.F.E.  (2 for the very expensive price of 1 ) :-bd :-bd

Current Mother-out-of-Law is fine. Drives my other half nuts, but no issues from me.
