The autocorrect on my computer is really annoying me as it insists on writing wargames as war-games. I don't know about anyone else but I have never, ever seen it written anywhere like this except when my autocorrect kicks in. Even Featherstone's book in the 60s was 'Wargames'! This suggests that the hyphenated version has been redundant for some considerable time, except, perhaps, in the damaged mind of Michael Gove.

The hyphenated version I prefer for fantasy battles is warg-aiming.

Can't you just type it and then add it to your dictionary? That's what I do with a lot of military words, saves the red lines underneath.

Never heard of adding it to my dictionary. I've only just (sort of) got the hang of posting photos, and can't even manage that to Yahoo groups.

Which (when pronounced as 'waarmur') is a Scottish slangword for someone who has no clue, generally unlikeable and who gets on your nerves. 

How insolent is that!?   

And its not even a Scottish computer.

I worked with a bloke who was a practical joker. If you left your computer unattended (slapped wrists), he would change the auto speller so that when you typed your name onto a document, it would self correct to some spurious and amusing different name.

Not so funny if one of the documents got out of the building without getting caught!

So auto correct can be your friend ..... sometimes.

Working in Bosnia back in the nineties (yes it is a long time ago!) when you typed in "Radovan Karadic" it came up with "Redefine Cowardice".

Now who do you think arranged that?

I was very nearly "Natman Hardcore" on my degree certificate... every year I had to get them to correct it, and they still nearly stuffed it up after four years!
