Doesnt count as a wargame if you lost  :P

Oh bugger - that means that since 1980 or so I've only played about half a dozen wargames  :o ;D

I wasn't gonna mention it, but if you bring it up yourself... ;D

1st "war" game of 2011 -- ZOMBIES  :D :D

A buddy ran a cool Zombie board game where each player had to defend your house from the zombie hordes, my house didn't last very long. :o

But next week is CD Test of Battle, so that is the "official" 1st wargame of 2011.

I love zombie games!  Is the one you played the Zombie game with the square maps you create as you go along and heaps of off-white little plastic zombie figs?

First game of 2011 was a "VBCW 1938",great fun.

Now i need to order about 20 pack of SCW figs to make up some more units?

Looks like it will be WSS with BP, and Pendraken.  Hopefully I'll have 1, maybe 2 units of horse painted by Tuesday, but no chance on the 5 battalions of foot that arrived this morning.
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

1st game of 2011 was VBCW using BKC.
The idea was that the BUF and TA were trying to prevent an Anglican column moving to support their comrades on the Surrey/Sussex border. With the local anarchists pitching in to kill some fascists. The main body of Anglicans made it but carelessly lost their armoured car and scout car to the TA.

We find this works well in 10mm as we can get 4 players around a small table in my front room. This gives us a relatively big game lasting about 4 hours plus beer, wine and snacks  8)

Played Warmaster Fantasy last night. Using Lord of the Rings based lists, I had a Lorien Elf list with lots of archersand some ultra tough 1st age Knights vs a Sauron list with hordes of weak Orcs and quite a lot of Uruk Hai and Trolls. Despite some early inactivity on my part due to multiple failed command rolls from high command value commanders I ended up totally destroying the evil forces without loosing a unit!

Nope, each person had a house and had to defend it.  I have played the zombie game you are talking about and it is much more fun.

Lord Kermit of Birkenhead

Thursday last - used my Turks, in a 7 Player fantasy/historical Warmaster. Fun for me, but the Sassinids I was facing got a bit miffed, with rare wooden stakes across me front.

My first game of 2011 will be a quasi historical pre-ECW mid-sized encounter - King`s Men versus a raiding Marcher Lord`s band of cutthroats and desperados.

Yummy... muskets and cannon against bows and swords  :-\

Sounds like some great games going on out there already - or planned...So, how come none of you have written a batrep for our nice section here then, eh??!  :d

I've been too busy with work [& trying to secure my own future] & clearing / painting the house to get round to bunging dice - but might just drag out a small game over the weekend...possibly some Pulp dungeoneering or a small BKC scrap.

As Last Hussar predicted it was a Black Powder WSS game on Tuesday.

A fun game, even though most of the infantry on both sides just stood out of range and glared at each other.

The terrain meant that there was a narrow gap between a row of hills and an extensive wooded area in the middle of the table. The Imperialists and Prussians manouvered themselves to set up a crossfire on the leading French units to pass through the gap. Thinking this looked like suicide the French attempted to outflank the Allies by sending 3 battalions through the woods, but they seemed to get lost amongst the trees.

On the far flank the Prussians cavalry's charge failed to break the French cavalry. In return the French advanced, assisted by some battalions of infantry. Faced with a wall of bayonets and outflanking horse, the Allied cavalry kept retiring out of musket range, pursued by the French.

Eventually the Allied cavalry were destroyed, 2 units lost and the last unit on the table shaken) for the loss of a French infantry battalion.
The French cavalry were now in a position to sweep around the Allies flank. But as it was getting late (and more importantly we had drunk all the beer) we decided it was nightfall and both armies would withdraw from the field, honour satisfied.
