Bunny

Could I also ask for the campaign rules please :-[

Also what size armies are you using? Are they painted as 'Imagi nations'?

Jim Ando

Hi

Send me your e-mail address in a personal message.

We have about 21 units per side excluding artillery.

The Bayern player has franco prussian bavarians (painted as so)

I`m the Hiesenburg player using crimean war russians

and the Kendrickstein player has a mixture of 1870 prussians mixed with 1860 canadians painted how he liked.

Hi
Battle of Sheldonberg

Battle Type – Pitched Battle

Turn 1
In an attempt to give themselves a secure defensive position the army of Kendrickstein immediately advanced towards the town of Sheldonberg and the surrounding walled fields. In fairly swift order the Kendrickstein infantry occupied the town and settled in for a hard slog.

Across the battlefield Crown Prince Karl Franz, Commander of the Bayern army observed the enemy and made changes to his initial battleplan. After brief discussions with the assembled brigade commanders dispositions were confirmed and the brigade commanders returned to their men eager to get at the enemy. The army of Bayern formed up and began a slow purposeful advance , a screen of skirmishers followed by columns of infantry.

Turn 2
As the main body of the Kendrickstein army held its ground, the Kendrickstein dragoons on their right flank advanced towards the Bayern 1st brigade . General Von Hern commander of the 1st brigade hesitated at this threat and the 1st brigades advance faltered.

On the Bayern right General Von Weed led his cavalry forward towards Sheldonberg. His orders had been straight forward protect the flank and ensure nothing got passed him.

Turn 3/Turn 4
The army of Kendrickstein continued its policy of sit and wait.  It was then that the opened fire with a new weapon – Rockets. The relative quiet was shattered by the scream of the rockets hurtling towards the Bayern columns.  The 6th battalion Von Kleist was the unfortunate recipient of the missiles. Fortunately the Kendrickstein rockets seemed more suited for fireworks displays than battle and apart from a little disorder did little damage.
Prince Karl Franz decided that the 1st brigade needed to get a move on. He hurriedly scribbled orders to several battalions and sent messengers galloping forward.  He was pleased to see a speedy response to his orders as the 1st Jaeger battalion advanced through some walled fields and began to fire on the Kendrickstein cavalry to their front. The remainder of the 1st brigade formed lines and began to advance.  As soon as they came into musketry range they began to pour fire into the Kendrickstein cavalry.

Turn 5/Turn 6/Turn 7
As the Bayern army continued its relentless advance they began to inflict more and more casualties on the Kendrickestein troops opposing them. Concentrated fire saw one battalion of Kendrickstein light infantry rout, and in a rather one side artillery duel  2 batteries of Bayern foot artillery destroyed a battery of Kendrickstein horse artillery and badly damaged another.
On the Bayern left flank General Becker seeing an opportunity to get to grips with the enemy ordered his cavalry to attack the by now shaken Kendrickstein dragoons.   A brutal melee ensued and despite being greatly outnumbered the dragoons managed a fighting withdrawal.  Unfortunately the Bayern cavalry pursued and then routed the dragoons.
The artillery duel continued with the Kendrickstein horse artillery finally routing rather than dying .

Turn 8
As the Kendrickstein dragoons routed , they were joined by a nearby light battalion and the rocket battery both of whom had been subjected to continuous fire from the Bayern forces. Seeing several units running seemed to an adverse effect on the Kendrickstein general. Despite have most of his troops still fresh and unengaged panic set in and orders to withdraw were hurriedly sent to the troops in and around Sheldonburg.

Turn 9/10
As the Kendrickstein forces began to stream towards their rear the Bayern forces began a rapid advance to try and cut off the escaping Kendrickstein army.  Unfortunately for the Bayern troops the Kendrickstein army had too much of a head start and Prince Karl decided to occupy Sheldonberg rather than pursue any further.

Result – Major Bayern Victory

Casualties
Kendrickstein – 2 Batteries of Horse Artillery one of which was recovered the other destroyed
                                1 Rocket battery destroyed
1 Skirmisher battalion and Dragoon unit routed but both were late recovered.

Bayern             - No losses suffered

Very good report.
Business like and to the point with enough juicy description to make one feel one was reading a C19th edition of the Times or London Illustrated Gazette. Bravo.

Hi

To be fair Colin( mr Kendrickstein) has fought more battles than anyone else and wants to conserve his forces as he has another battle to fight.

The Bayern player has only fought one so still has a complete army.

The beauty of a campaign is you get to fight some strange battles ones you wouldn`t dream of doing in a one off game.

Last weeks battle had to be seen to be beliveved.

Seeing the Kendrickstein army running away like girls was something to behold.

That's probably one of the best things about a campaign; the jiggling of resources.

Love it ;)
