There are twelve armies in the Warband rules, which should give you a good selection to choose from.  Simple question - which army are you planning to start first?

Barbarian men
3 (7.1%)
Dark elves
5 (11.9%)
Dragon men
9 (21.4%)
Eldritch vampires
0 (0%)
Goblins
16 (38.1%)
High elves
8 (19%)
Hill dwarves
15 (35.7%)
Lizard men
3 (7.1%)
Samurai apes
4 (9.5%)
Taurians
3 (7.1%)
Undead
11 (26.2%)
Wood elves
4 (9.5%)

What I'm really liking is the real variety you can get from the army lists; for example you don't need to have a Hill Dwarf Army as a solid wall of troops, you can make quite am agile aggressive attacking army and still be playing to their strengths. What I guess this means is that each of the 12 armies could potentially suit any play style you prefer.

There are also armies that I wouldn't normally of even considered such as Eldritch Vampires & Lizard Men but these look like they could both be potentials. I'm in the process of creating a basic army builder and it really gives an insight into the range of possibilities within each army...a Barbarian force comprising just Bison Riders & War Mammoths sounds fun :d

O Dinas Powys

Well, if and when...

Taurians, well the centaurs anyway, to go with this year's/form the basis of next year's competition entry...  :-\

Dark elves, because I already have some in progress, including from last year's painting competition...  ;)

Lizardmen, because I've always loved lizard men.  Hopefully I'll be able to invoke a RuneQuest/Gloranthan Dargonewt vibe!  8->

Cheers!

Me too but ducks; what was that about?

Anyone remember the angry duck on the front of Apple Lane?

Buy plenty of Matron's sculpts now!

If he keeps using the chainsaw, the value of his work will soon go up.

When they were working out the character races for the game they needed something to fit into the halfling niche. I think Howard the Duck was a major influence, along with Donald and Daffy.

Donald and Daffy's tendency to fly off the handle at a moment's notice was obviously an inspiration for their stereotypical, angry-bird nature  ~X(

Californians!  ;)

I think I used every race in as a games master in Runequest except ducks!

Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb! =)

Well, Dark Elves and Hill Dwarfs since I've got armies from the company that shall not be mentioned that are painted already. For Pendraken? Don't know yet. Taurians look interesting but so do Eldritch Vamps.

Not a fan of Storm Bill, Hueymakt or Orlanth-Dewey then?! ;)

Personally I was always a fan of Ducks  :d

Now, Maidstone Archers, they were totally mental!!  8-}

Maybe we shoul start our own poll in another thread ;)

Meanwhile, if you want more Gloranthan goodness, add your voice to my suggestion in the Fantasy Bears request for Jack-O-Bears :D

I am considering the Undead more than any other.

However the guys here are complaining about not playing old games and I have a lot of unpainted stuff already...  :-\ :-\ :'( 8)

Bring on the addiction!  ;D ;D ;D

Has the order of release of the various armies been declared yet?

Also I can see my next order containing some of the old fantasy armies already currently available.  Hmmm, what to get and when to get it, that just always seems to be the question.   :-\

I think Leon has said barbarians, undead and dark elves in that order but don't quote me.

Hmmm... may hold off until the formal undead army pack rolls out.  The others seem a good value.

DON'T quote me; I'd check with Leon first  ;)

Oh, don't worry.  I got about two more orders planned to round out existing armies.  I may get to it by Fall.  :D

AndyT

I voted "goblin" in answer to this question, but having spent some time putting together the wild horde, deciding I need more units (thanks for the very quick order delivery Leon) and sticking as many as I can to bases (I've run out of bases and dice frames now) the next question is what will be my second army? - probably something regular and organised like High Elves. I wonder where they are in the "army revamp" schedule?

In the meantime I have a lot of figures waiting to be undercoated...

MattW

It would be nice to get a list of the order that we can expect things... I'm guessing wood elves will be last  :'(

Released alphabetically?
Not really Pendraken's style! ;)

I think barbarians must be the least useful description in wargaming. Whom does it exclude, from some viewpoint or other?
