You do a nifty diorama. I hope this carries over into figures for actual games too, preferably in the interesting wars.

I have to admit I did spend far too much time on this stand compared to my normal rate, but somehow I just find myself tinkering with command stands, objective markers and other battlefield clutter, and then having a mad minute of trying to finish the infantry regiments before the game night.  :-[ I just hope it's not just me, maybe others suffer from preferential treatment of their specialist stands as well?
Cheers,
Aksu

PS looking forward to having the time to start painting lace wars figs, to me those count as "interesting wars".

That is not bad at all. During the game players use to get their attention in command stands more than regular troops. Also they are much more taken in photos.

The problem would the if you paint your commands in one night but you spend hours in a lost regimment unit that lays in the left reserve corner during the battle  8)

I must admit that the really important thing is that you manage to paint the whole army for the game (doesn't matter the the level of painting)

Lays whom? Are they the disreputable lot ravishing the nuns in that captured convent?

Would have thought that they et em...

In the real world in 1812 at least 1 Corp of French Dragoons were on foot, and walking in their uniform boots is just about impossible.

Shhh! It'll lead to demands for dragonkin riding palfreys to go with the stoats riding gerbils and the armoured bears.

Oh yes, I remember the film ... "They Eat Horses Don't They" :)

I wholeheartedly agree. I would be more than happy to play with any and all of the work displayed on these pages by the esteemed forum members! In my opinion when gaming in our scale the spectacle is created by the armies and the entire setup, not by individual figures.

I am torn between feeling disappointed not to be in the race (no matter how far behind I'd be trailing) and relieved that I decided that keeping my focus on my 6mm Sumerians was more important than participating because, quite frankly, I think all of the entries so far are amazing!

So, thank you all for the inspiration, well done on all your efforts and while I will heartily congratulate the winners I think it fair to say that none of the entrants need be disappointed if they do not come first!

Now, I'm off to sit on my hands so I don't start yet another module for that damned city rather than painting units :)

One of the things that I enjoy about the painting competition is the variety of styles on show.

I find this of interest because a) I don't really like painting - it is a means to an end b) I have still to find my pre 1900 style. I prefer my WWII figures to be drab, almost anonymous, and my ACW are utilitarian rather than colourful.

Yeah and the standard keeps getting higher and higher ;)
