Welcome Steffen.  The AWI figures are glorious, as are the LOA, but I can particularly recommend the range of figures for that Family Feud, the Austro Prussian War of 1866!  ;)

Hello again,

here are the first AWI Minis nearly finished.

It was fun painting them!

Cheers Steffen.

FSN before you criticise the period- maybe he is doing how the Germans efficiently put down a French inspired illegal uprising.
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

Not citicising, just doesn't spark my enthusiasm. Seems a bit of a tawdry affair to me. Nobody managed to raise to any level of competency.

They drowned tea.

Barbaric!

Won't get out of bed for anything between 1450 and 1800. (Yes, I know I just spent £x on War of the Spanish Succession figures. The irony is not lost on me.)

I think if someone has enthusiasm for a period it should be encouraged. The AWI and LOA are not my thing either, but they are superb sculpts and I enjoy following forum members' painting and playing with them.

Agreed. I rejoice in our variety. I even understand that some people may not share my enthusiasm for mid C20 British armour beginning with "C", and I'd hate for anyone to think that I would belittle any period.

All right, I would belittle many periods, but I delight in those who have the enthusiasm and energy to adopt these facets of our hobby. Even the concept of the AWI being a French inspired affair which the Germans stuck the boot into can't (for me) make it interesting.

I think in my original post, I was merely encouraging Steffan to widen his purchase of Pendraken miniatures to other ranges.

Not offence or discouragement meant.

Just noticed the Hanover bit. We are running a large CWC game based around there set in 1985. Are there any maps of the area for that date available, particularly showing the Autobahn.

Thanks

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

@Subedai:

I used to take rental cars to Bergen-Hohne Garrison near Celle between 2003 and 2006.

Cheers, Steffen.

I lived at Munsterlager -at least that's what it was called back then, I can't seem to find it on Google Maps though.

Also while others are bandwagoning their personal favourites, I can vouch for the shiny loveliness of the Mongols.

I suspect the person in question has (Well I know he did). It gives 2014 stuff, he was looking for 85, and needs to check for changes.

Oh, that might get very difficult. Because the only place to get such maps, as I know, is the city of Hanover in the archive. I don't know, if they give them out.

There is something I found online, but these are older maps. I don't think it is helpful.  ( http://www.landkartenarchiv.de/deutschland_stadtplaene_falk.php )

And here is something from 1972 road atlas, but it's the latest to be found online ( http://www.landkartenarchiv.de/deutschlandkarten.php?q=adacreisekarte_deutschland_1972 )

Cheers

Welcome to the Forum, Sir.

Don't understand why, but every time we get a new member, people post some right gibberish. Could be a foreign language for all I know!

Personally I never saw the attraction of the dastardly American Insurrection. Do you think you could be persuaded to a more acceptable form of gaming? I can personally recommend the American Civil War range, and WWII, and medieval, and Marlborough's Wars and the Dark Age.

The Centurion tanks are particularly lovely.

Yes, I also thought about The American Civil War and the Dark Age. I already painted some WW II miniatures from other Ranges for a 15mm Skirmish. What I think, that also very interesting are the modern Armies of the 20th Century. There are very interesting Rules available for these scenarios.

Right now I try to get finished some AWI Minis, but the variety of the miniatures made by Pendraken is incredible. I don't know where to start :-bd

It's not the starting that's the problem, Steffen, it's the stopping once you get going!  :o
