Gentlemen, and ladies, of the forum.

I ask you to cast your vote in this totally unbiased poll, for the prestigious title of 'Oik of the year, 2014."
A difficult choice, I know.....But there has to be a winner.
It could be a very close run thing, so I ask you to consider the options carefully.

Thank you in advance.
Cheers - Phil (If this is in the wrong place....please move it to a more appropriate location, Leon. ;))

It'm marvelous isn't it? There's a poll in which I am the only candidate, and I still seem to be losing.  =)

According to my "Fraser's Word Derivations" (2011 revision, forward by Stephen Fry) "Oik" is a contraction of "Oooh! I Know". It was originally a public school term for the person in the class whose intelligence put the others to shame; the pupil who constantly hand his hand in the air saying "Oooh! I Know." A swot, if you would.

I think it's quite appropriate.   :P

could someone define an oik?

from the Oxford English Dictionary: oick, oik (OIk). slang. Etym. obscure. Depreciatory schoolboy word for a member of another school; an unpopular or disliked fellow-pupil. Also gen., an obnoxious or unpleasant person; in weakened senses, a 'nit-wit', a 'clot'. Hence 'oikish a., unpleasant, crude; 'oickman (see quot. 1925).
