Finally had some time this afternoon to take a some photos of the Austrians. I have painted a bunch more but did not have time to take them out.

They look good, lovely terrain as well. I am in the process of putting my stuff back on 30mm bases as I want to use my 10mm stuff for more traditional battalion based games. The 6mm can do the massive battles.

They are lovely, now I am going to be a complete bore, to paraphrase Amy Winehouse ... 'your brigadier has red pants - I said no, no no ... '
Terrain looks great.

Excellent work,Lekw. And nicely photographed.

Love the look of those.  And Cam is right, the general is in full dress uniform, rather than the usual campaign dress of powderblue (I think officially called pike grey in this case) jacket and grey trousers with broad red stripes. That said, it will not be the first time that model soldeirs march onto the battlefield in their finest! And the red/white is a great combination  :D. Can thoroughly recommend "Trapped like a fox", a great way of playing REALLY big battles.

 "your brigadier has red pants"

Artistic license? Honestly can't remember why I painted his pants red?  Also I debated forever on how to base these. Went from large bases to small back to large then small and now thinking of rebasing on 20 by 25 just because they may be easier to handle when playing. Honestly it was one of the reasons for taking some pictures of them. One day I will make a decision and then paint thousands, or so I keep telling myself. The figures are works of art real fun to paint. Takes me back to my age of rifles PC game days always trying to hold out with the Austrians.

Glad you all like them. :D

Parade dress rather than campaign dress but he looks very fine; you might also try Field of Battle 2 (1866 variant).

Just read your post again, another AOR man, that's how I discovered this period too, ah how I wish they'd update it and do a re-release, just think how good it could be.

PPS How are you distinguishing between 4 and 8pdrs? I leave the seat off the 4pdrs but put it on the 8s and paint it brown; not too obtrusive and obviates the use of labels ... froth froth ....

Never thought of AOR re-release that would be amazing!!! The best part of the game was the army creator, putting uniforms together and unique units. Loved that game. Great idea with the 4 and 8 pdrs think that is what I will do!!!

Ah yes and the terrain editor too, I re-made Gravelotte to perfection (and still lost!).

Age of Rifles is/was one of the greatest PC wargames ever (close second was Shadow of the Horned Rat and Dark Omen). It had a horrendous system for causalities( battles ended up with 50-60% casualties in my case) but beyond that it was almost perfect. If they re-release it, I would pay good money to get it. Matrix Games or Slithering? You listening? Take my money!
