Sorry, already gone past the 24 hour mark with no movement - no cigar (or cloakroom ticket)

Still going through a security scan (other site shows it as being opened). Yes, hopefully it is going through by air.

I thought most countries did their real checking, on stuff that was coming in....Not stuff going out. (A misconception on my part ?)
Or is China different on that score ?

I've looked it up and China does do this, so it's not unusual. Maybe with an electric motor and wires they want to check it out.

Moving through Indonesia and Malaysia, I've had officials carefully going through and listing all the objects I'm taking out of the country. I think it's more a case of making work for people rather than overly cautious security. It's not unusual for four people to handle and notate a docket for a simple purchase in Asia.

Ever bought a train ticket or changed a traveller's cheque in India? You can live a long and happy life without that experience.

Made the mistake once of using Traveller's cheques in the Philippines. 14 people and 45 minutes to cash them at a bank >:( >:( >:(

In Poland they just refused point blank. Apparently it costs an arm and a leg in bank charges. So much for Thos Cook then.
