I've watched Doctor Who since late in the Hartnell era. The first episode or two of a new Doctor is always a rocky road until the new bloke gets settled in. This episode itself I found a bit blah. It was nice to see the characters of Jenny and Madam Vastra rounded out a bit more (although a young Victorian woman would not have dreamed of whooping and clapping like an American cheerleader!) I think Michelle Gomez (who is as mad as a very mad person - check out her performance in the TV series Green Wing) will turn out to be the Master in female guise. Maybe Moffatt is trying harder to write better female characters at last?

And there was the usual DW nod to left-wing politics. Did anyone notice the newspaper article the Doctor read concerned the dreadful fate of one Margaret Roberts? Margaret Thatcher's maiden name?

Only caught the new episode half way thru - have trouble getting Capaldis character in The Thick of It out of my head, but he's good enough that I think once settled he'll be a cracking Doctor.
