Peter posted a jolly spiffing after action report, with pictures, of our first game using these figures here http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,10366.0.html  :D

I finished the tidy up on the basing of the third batch last night and they are now waiting for good weather  on the weekend so they can be varnished  :-SS

Started organising the next batch; 2 infantry battalions and 2 dismounted cavalry regiments, all British. Hopefully these will get undercoated during the weekend, after I varnish the current batch ;)

Cleaned up most of the figures for the next batch last night.  Four battalions is a lot of figures even when not much clean up is required.

I will finish clean up tonight and wash them. Will put on painting rods tomorrow ready to be undercoated once the current batch is varnished

Next batch is undercoated  :) current batch still not varnished  >:(

Weather mucking me about, not quite warm enough to varnish and brief showers blowing through as well.

Forecast is warmer tomorrow but will be a race between temperature and freshening northerlies to see if I get to varnish outside  :-SS

Off to burst through the German lines near Balrome tonight, our final practice game before Call to Arms next weekend.

Er, I've never quite understood why the weather plays such a major part in your varnishing, Paul. The acrylic varnish I use (Vallejo matt) is odourless and fume-free and is touch-dry in minutes. Job done.  :)

I am kind of the same though I have found sometimes its the type of spray varnish. I have used the AP varnish spray in so called ideal conditions and it has completely messed up my models . I have also used the Humbrol one when it has been snowing and about -5 C and its been fine. No idea why this should be, though no matter what the weather I have never had any problems with the Humbrol
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

I use Testors Dullcote from long habit. I have only ever tried one other varnish and it decided to go semi-white rather than clear ruining the figures I tested it on.

Testors is definitely not "odourless and fume-free"  :-& but is touch-dry fairly quickly.

I could probably spray in worse conditions than I do but the thought of the figures looking like they are covered in white gauze makes me nervous  :-SS

Remember also it is winter here, had to de-ice the windscreen after our game last night and again this morning

Currently calm, sunny and 3 degrees, "feels like 0" according to the Met Service and its 10am

Lovely job !  8)
Cheers - Phil

Gosh :o stunning work. Humbrol gloss varnish messed up some of my plastic 28s. Will probably never use spray varnish again on figures,

Fantastic work.   No wonder this is a must see thread.

However : 'bayonet knot' - on 10mm -  sir, you leave me speechless !

Keep up the good work - this will be a superb army.
