I just wanted to point folks in the direction of August's WI, #322.

There's a mega article on the battle of Elouges (August '14) staged by "The Friends of General Haig" in Worcester. Lot's of glossy pics of Pendraken figs in nice BIG units - BIG units - we used 24 figs to an infantry company! 100+ to a battalion - check it out!

And I'd like to add that none of it would have possible without the input of Dave and Leon - thank you.

Good grief! Have they finally had a Damascus moment? (nothing to do with the current situation there - unfortunately I was subjected to a huge dose of Paulism as a child. How that mysoginistic old bigot was ever considered a Christian is well beyond my ken )

Excellent, we'll have to pick up a copy.

Rules?

Well, we used Black Powder - and they work - for 1914 at least.

1/2 moves, keep ranges the same. All troops deployed in line are skirmishers and hit on 5+. Germans in massed columns are hit on 4+, but get a +1 command bonus for being in a massed formation. MGs as per the rules. Arty were 3 models to a battery, hence a model is a section of 2 real guns, but arty have no canister - so only 2 dice max per model. Cavalry mounted are hit on a 4+, but can mount / dismount for free without an order being given. No unit can move more than once and still fire. The Germans had a spotter plane that we treated like a recce unit from CWC/BKC. The Brits are a mix of steady of stubborn to taste and counted as "sharpshooters", so they always got to reroll 1 missed fire die. Remember that British cavalry had rifles as well, not carbines! I think that was about it. It flowed really well and we got a 2000 figure game finished in an afternoon.

Only the cover art work for the magazine and the Flames of War rules/lists supplement that comes with it: showing a German A7V storming across a British trench. Aimed at the Panzer Fantasists that one I am afraid.

Good to hear there will be something interesting in the magazine itself though.

Interesting use of Black Powder. Will try these adaptions with my planned 'Great Game' armies in the future.

Elouges hmmmm.....Have to track down a copy of WI 322....not that you can get WI in NZ for love or money these days...have to get a PDF copy from the publisher I suppose.

2000 figures???? well that should keep Paul busy for a while....once the weather here gets a bit better....snow down to 300m forecast tonight.

Magazine came in the mail today lots of 15mm Flames of War, looks like WW2 with trenches to me, and fantastic pictures of the 10mm game. Very impressive and inspiring!!! Thanks for letting us know about it.

One other question, what size bases did you use?
