Thanks for all the welcomes guys.

Michael - thanks - it sounds very simple - the effect of the gold knots is really good and I am sure it looks better in person

Thanks

John

Hi John,

Thanks for posting on the Pendraken Forum! And thanks for reading the Blog!

The Austrian knot (of Hungarian origin) I paint gold/bronze for the officers and dark yellow (to tone down the yellow to simulate the blank-and-yellow lace) for other ranks.

I basically paint a line with three dots at the end (in triangular formation). Then paint one (or more) smaller blue dot in the centre of the triangle of dots. If I have the time and inclination, I paint a blue line down the middle of the gold/yellow line – but rarely.

Way back when I trialed my first grenz infantryman, I painted the knot as yellow dots without finishing off with a blue central dot. I also had a go painting black-and-yellow lace on the shako but thought just dark yellow was just about fine.

My favourite yellow for blank-and-yellow lace is Foundry's Lemon Shade 1A. I should say that close-ups of the knots – especially with the shine of the paint – don't show up in the photos as they appear on the tabletop.

Cheers, Michael

Derek, I'll see if I can get a widget that works with my software but it'll take time that I'd rather spend on getting ready for Lard Day.  ;)  Michael

It's been a while, so it's time for an excuse:

The small square at the top of the house isn't a window, by the way, but a hole to allow water to drain off the flat roof.

Very nice work

Always good when you can buildings and terrain to do multiple periods
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Lack of storage space means that this is essential for me.
