"Small clothes", now there's a blast from the past - the very distant past, moreover. Usual brilliant standard, Paul. But there's an awful lot of the little blighters....

A blast from the 1780s perhaps  :)

Thanks all for the kind comments  :-[ :) :D

There certainly are a lot of the blighters as the British found out on Saturday night. I have started the report on game four, will try and get it posted in the next few days

I'm painting the 71st Foot at the moment using AWB8 Highlander centre company, trews, marching.

I am a bit stumped, what is that on the left hip. I suspect it is a knapsack (which I will paint Ivory or Deck Tan) but there is something else sitting on top of it.

Anyone got any idea what it is and what colour it should be? It is sculpted in three distinct layers each slightly smaller than the one closer to the knapsack.

The cartridge box is worn at the front at the waist so it is not that.

Just out of interest, where's the figure's right hand?  :-\

Bag and bottle?
Based on the Napoleonic kit - water bottle is carried over the ration bag. Bottle could well be spherical.

It should be a water bottle/canteen indeed although it looks a bit like ball from this perspective...
Most AWI canteens looked a lot like the British  WW-2 model, just taller and without a cover thus showing the bright tin. They would have some attachments soldered to the sides through which a piece of cord was fastened to sling them over the right shoulder.
The other common type is the tin or wooden 'drum' model; flat and round in different sizes. These were either left natural (so either tin or wood) or they were painted light blue with some unit markings on them.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Cheers,
Rob

So sorry; the layers are probably from the top down: the canteen, the cord around it, and the flap of the haversack...at least; that's how I paint them!

At the end of his right arm by the looks of it. Where did you expect it to be...? ;)

In case you were asking about his 'other right hand'   ;) it is holding the butt of the musket, from this angle is hidden by the cuff.
