All,

So, yesterday I got a couple skirmish games in.  They were WWII and I was lamenting the fact I had bought a bunch of Pendraken stuff for Vietnam but had never finished them, so, guess what I did today?  Yup, and here's the proof.  Please take a gander at my latest forces.  I did a 'rush' paintjob, but they look as good as any I ever do, and I'm pretty happy with the the wash; not sure if it's factual, but I feel like I'm getting better.

Here's the whole force.  I didn't quite go 0 to 60 today, all the figures had been cleaned, glued to popsicle sticks, and primed khaki.  Today I painted them, based them, 'grassed' them, and washed them, and still need to hit them with matte spray.  I must admit to being a bit scared as the temperature is getting up, humidity too, and the last thing I need is to turn these guys white...

So, what did I do?  I did thirteen Americans, about twenty North Vietnamese Army (NVA), about a twenty civilians, porters, and water bulls, and a little over a dozen Viet Cong (VC).

Had to get me another dog team in.

Not the best picture, but how can you pass up the Dshk and an 82mm mortar?  NVA of course.

Some civvies.

And some locals for Victor Charles.

There's about another 18 or so photos on the blog if you'd like to check it out:

I hope to get another game in tomorrow.

Why's that farmer carrying two huge condoms on the pole over his shoulder?
I don't drink coffee to wake up. I wake up to drink coffee.

Jack, these are coming along really nicely now. The level of wash seems just right, giving good shadows, without dulling down the whole figure.

Hello bjm

Very nice, reminded me to start organising Annamese police for Shanghai  :)

The heads might also come in handy for WW1 too.

Let us know how the game goes with these new figs.

Cheers

Nice idea Grumpy on a different use for the VC figures etc :).

I've a fair few mixed into my French Indo-China stuff, they're all nice looking sculpts! Like the idea of those Tirailleurs Annamites for WW1 though, very different :D

Those colours are really popping, Bigjackmac!
I agree with the crowd, the wash worked super well.
I notice you use a fair bit of varnish to finish.  I'm a big fan of varnish, myself, as it gives a really durable finish and seems to make the colours pop even more.
I've found that a wee misting of dullcote helps to give the colours depth and reduce the glare.
If you take a look at the Sumerians I posted on the Non-Pendraken thread (heaven forbid! sacrilege!) you can see they have a fair bit of sheen but no glare.
Of course it doesn't always work.  My first attempt, with my Black Brunswickers, made them into a sand-blasted mess!

Cheers,
Rob

Thanks Smokie, I appreciate it, and that's interesting regarding the varnish.

Thanks everyone else too, before I met you guys I didn't even use a wash!  Be sure to check out the batreps section, where these troops can be seen in action!

I'm a big fan of various wash techniques these days - really helps shade a mini and make the detail pop!
