I have started a blog http://ncwb.blogspot.com/ to post the progress of a Sudan campaign I am running.  the rules are based on Steve Winters rules with a few modification.  Turn 4 is done and I have a game to get in for Turn 5.

All figures are Pendraken excpet the Steamers, they are scratch built.  The buildings are from Paperterrain

Mmmm. Sudan battles always look exciting, don't they? I may be fighting one tomorrow (unless my primary opponent wants to do Turks and Poles).

Thanks for the comments, I should have turn 5 up next week, I need to have a couple people over for a game.

It was interesting after the 2 games we played last week, the person playing the Egyptians stated that he forgot that the results of the game would have an impact on the coming battles.  He almost lost a Cavalry squadron in the first game, and then in the second. the Egyptian Battalion was beat up.

If you can use a campaign for setting up games it is a great way to go.  This system that Steve Winters setup I think could be used for several eras.  Once I get through my 1866 Saxons, I am either starting on my 1870 French or start the NWF.

Turn 5 is posted.  We are play testing the gaming rules with a couple guys from Fire and Fury.  So far they are working out ok.

how are you basing everything? I think Fire and the Sword are two to a base... never played it... but how many bases in a unit.. eg the 79th and the 45th in your blog.

I have them based 2 to a stand. .875 x .625 for Infantry, Cavalry/Camels on a .875 square.  Fire and Fury uses 4 to a square stand.  But it can work however you have them mounted.

British run 12-15 stands
Egyptians 15 stands
Sudanese 14 stands
Cavalry is 5-6 stands
British Mounted Camels - 10 stands

All per battalion.

Game scale is 1 stand = 40 men, so it is close to historical numbers.1 gun stand = 2 guns, 1" = 25 yards, turn is 10-15 minutes

Dervish are all over
6-9 stands for Rifle units
8-12 for Sword and Spear
Cavalry I am running at 12 stands but still a work in progress

We play Fire and Fury for almost everything. ACW, 1866, Napoleonic, WWII Battlefront by Fire and Fury.  We are trying to keep the same rule system to eliminate cross referencing rules.

You can still buy the Regimental rules from the Fire and Fury website.  Not sure if they have any of the original Brigade rules. left, but you can find a copy every once and awhile.

Age of Valor by ColBill ( Fire and Fury) is about to be released I think that covers right up to Russian Japanese war in 1905, not sure if you need any of the other books to play it though

I don't think so, as Col Bill's book are stand alone rules sets.  Can't wait for those to be released. I will then have to decide if I go 1870 French, since I ahve Austiran and Prussians, or start the NWF and a new campaign.  too many decisions

What we are playing is something that a couple guys that play test the Fire and Fury rules and Battlefront Rules put togehter for the Sudan specific.  I woudl think with a few adjustments it woud work for Zulus, NWF, Boer and most Colonial.
