Looks good. I'm impressed with the very orderly way you have your paints organised. (You may want to talk to a professional about that.)

Are the lamps daylight bulbs? I can't paint without them. (I ain't that bloomin' good with 'em!)

To quote someone on a different thread (Nik I think); I have CDO: it's like OCD but with the letters in the correct order :D

They are daylight bulbs: there is also an angle poise daylight from above (you can just see it in the photo).  Makes a massive difference to your painting. ;)

The only thing that would make a massive difference to my painting is someone else doing it....  :( :( :(

But without a word of a lie, I can say I used to get paid for taking photo's of thousands of models.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I did a controlled experiment to decide on the best lighting rig. I changed the lighting whilst painting Pendraken ACW infantry (ACW1) to the same scheme. They were all undercoated the same way beforehand 10 figures were painted under each lighting condition. Each figure was based with a code underneath so that they could be mixed and judged in a blind test. Each figure was scored for paint quality in daylight and only then was the base checked to see what lighting conditions the figure was painted under. Throughout, the same paints and brush were used, and the order in whch the paints were used was standardised. The experiment was conducted over a series of nights, starting at the same time every night and noting progress after every hour to see if speed was affected by the light.

   * a daylight lamp either side, 12" from the figure plus overhead lamp.
   * removal of overhead
   * Removal of each daylight lamp alternatively,
    * putting both daylight lamps  on one side
    * removal of daylight lamps, overhead only
    * removal of overhead lamp, painting by the glow from the telly
    * (Power cut option) 1 candle, 6" from figure
    * total darkness.

The results were inconcluive. No lighting rig provided a better quality of finish, and the speed was only marginally impaired by total darkness.

I'm going to try again changing brush size. I think this 2" brush may have been the problem.

I just wish I had my own dedicated space... :(.

I have a dedicated painting table. but because I can leave it up all the time it is now full of crap with no room to paint at it anymore

I'm lucky I have a study to paint in. However my painting kit fits into one of my wife's old make-up boxes so easy to tidy away - 25 or so paints, couple of brushes, file, scalpel, couple of sheets of A4 to paint on.

:-& :-& :-&

Anyone else use rolls of kitchen roll or bog roll?

Yep I buy the cheapo toilet roll and I have a " Wire hanger" screwed into the bottom of a shelf next to me  so I can jsut grab a bit from the end of the roll when needed. Get through quite a bit.

Got in trouble the other day - I ran out and nicked the last spare roll of Andrex out of the bathrom.  I was informed that :-

1 Needing it for painting did not constitute "an emergency
2 "my need was not greater than the needs of the rest of the house".  I did try to argue that with three toilets in the house there was actually 3 rolls avaliable for conventional  use but this was overuled.  >:(

To this I replied that in future my "painting roll" was not avaliable in emergencies as loo roll  no matter how dire  :d
