My pick for Napoleonics has to be Ganesha Games' Song of Drums and Shakos Large Battles, gives a fairly good game in a shortish period of time, plus its cheap. Not only that but with the standard Battalion being only 12 guys and the Cavalry Regiments only being six guys you dont have to be looking at that many painted before getting a game in.

Ah yes, also played MERP, Ars Magica and the Warmammer RPG. So many games, so little ...memory!

Hi Richard

Welcome

For fantasy Hordes of the Things to start. You can then expand to Warmaster.  At our club we don't bother with the spells much in warmaster as it gives a good game without it. the only thing is some armies ie Undead actually need the spells to be a viable army.

I only play Nappys occasionally. the club uses the orriginal Shako rules, or General de Brigade. I miuch prefer General de Brigade, but I am no expert, just enjoy the game more.

If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions!

I have the free download HOTT but that doesn't include army lists as far as I can see so not sure how to actually construct an army!

I've downloaded Fusilier for the Napoleonics so will give them a bash - Now I just need to order some models.

Any help on finding Army Lists for HOTT would be appreciated - really fancy doing some Centaurs!

Hi Richard,
Welcome aboard.... a tad late but hey ho   :-[
I found the same with HOTT ..couldn't find the lists either which is why I stuck to warmaster as I already had a couple of armies.
Sometimes I wonder - why is that frisbee geting bigger - and then it hits me!

I thought the whole point of HOTT was you made your own lists friom the points values for the elements? 24 army points iirc - which I probably don't, must be about a dozen years since I last played a game of HOTT.

I had a Dragon army, a Giant army and an Ent army among others - most of which have since been co-opted into my Warmaster armies.

Personally I hated it, but I didnt like DBA either

Least worst options for me - it was HOTT or Warhammer and DBA or 6th Edition. Small cheap armies, quick games played in a small area. Suited the cash, time and space available.
