Hi Jack,

If I might be allowed to drop in my two penn'orth.... The obvious choke-point on the map is the bridge over the river - given that the river is impassable to men and vehicles. As the German I would personally ignore table 1 completely and concentrate on holding the river-line. (Any fall-back of my forces from table 1 would necessarily have to cross the bridge, which would be dangerous at best.)

How the river-line was defended would be dependent on distances (which you don't quote), but if table 3 were in range of the bridge I would have at least some of my force deployed on the high ground there. Otherwise, every gun, mortar and nebelwerfer would be concentrated on that bridge. Good luck to any American trying to cross it!

That's a brief outline of my thinking. Hope it helps.

Regards

Ray

Hi there,

Another setup:

Battle 1:
CC 2
Forward Observer (FO)
1 x Nebelwerfer Battery (5 total fire missions)
Rifle Plt 1 - 3 rifle squads and Infantry AT
MG 1
MG 2
Mortar 1

Battle 2:
Commanding Officer (CO)
Rifle Plt 2 - 3 rifle squads and Infantry AT
Wpns Plt 1 - 2 MGs, 1 80mm mortar, and Infantry AT
PzSchreck 1
PzSchreck 2
PaK40 1
Engineer Plt (3 Engineer Squads)

Battle 3:
Company Commander (CC) 1
Rifle Plt 3 - 3 rifle squads and Infantry AT
Wpns Plt 2 - 2 MGs, 1 80mm mortar, and Infantry AT
Mortar 2
PaK40 2
Panzer Plt 1 (2 Pz Mk IV)
Panzer Plt 2 (2 Pz Mk IV)
FlaK 36 88mm ATG 1
FlaK 36 88mm ATG 2

Battle 4:
Rifle Plt 4 - 3 rifle squads and Infantry AT
PaK40 3

Not too different from other setups. Some reasoning behind this: Battle two is the focal point, so that's where the CO should be. Very close terrain, and with a real bottleneck, so put close-range AT and plenty of troops there. Longer range AT where there are fields of fire. Same for the FO. The AFV's ready for a counter attack on the choke point. Keep the last battle setup light, and depend on survivors. Those will probably not include heavy AT assets, so put one there as well.

Edit: Ray's right ofcourse. If I were planning for the Americans, I would seriously consider finding another crossing point, or try to establish a bridgehead with assault boats. The German setup should reflect this, as well.

Oh, I forgot to add, my engineer platoon would currently be preparing the bridge for demolition.  ;)
