We're getting very close now to the 100,000th post on the Forum, so we've decided to celebrate the occasion by having a bit of a giveaway! Whoever can guess the day and hour of our 100,000th post, will win a massive £100 worth of Pendraken goodies! Simply state the day and hour you think we will hit this milestone, and we'll see who can get the closest!
The Forum is one of our proudest achievements, and this is entirely down to you guys and the time and posts you've all put into it. So this is our way of saying thank you to everyone who has taken the time to contribute over the years!
So, the rules are:
- You must be a Forum member to take part - Kind of goes without saying I think!
- You must have AT LEAST 25 posts to your name - Easily done, simply join in the discussions, or post up some WIP pictures and batreps.
- Guesses should be to THE NEAREST HOUR please - For example, Dec 21st, 6pm. If the 100,000th post is made at any point between 5:31pm and 6:29pm, then you're the winner, and so on. All times are assumed to be GMT.
- The competition will close to entries when we reach 99,500 posts - So no waiting until the last minute to enter your guess!
- No nonsense posts to bump the count up - Make sure all your posts are contributing to a thread/discussion/Totty. Anyone making one word posts purely designed to bump the count will have their posts deleted. Remember that this is a bit of fun, so let's keep it that way.
Let us know if there are any questions.
And just to throw some data out there, over the past 3 months, we've had:
Sept - 3784 posts.
Oct - 3231 posts.
Nov - 3259 posts.
So, that would indicate that we may possibly hit the 100k before the end of 2013? But Dec '12 we only had 2067 posts, so will there be a similar downturn over Xmas this year? And will we get a rush of people frantically posting their WIP's and batreps to push the 100k closer to their own guess?!
Who knows, but it'll be fun to find out!
Best of luck to everyone.

Well, if we take it that the 100K post will be somewhere in December or January, that's about 60 days. With 24 slots per day, there's enough to go round for all forum members (assuming they are still active/read this thread/have at least 25 posts). But if we all start putting in several guesses, that may not be so. So on that count alone, multiple guesses seem to be out.

I have a faultless method of turning wine into something else entirely. But I suspect it might not be regarded as miraculous at all. :-\
Getting Mexicans into production would be just short of a miracle I would say! But you can always hope, or pray, or pester Leon endlessly.

No, just one guess per member. We've got around 300 members with more than 25 posts, and this should hopefully boost the post numbers on some of the less active members, so that'll leave enough slots to go around.

There's quite a few people, around 100, who have registered but never logged in at all. Then we've got another 350-ish who have logged in but haven't posted as yet. I've always assumed that they all joined as an easy way of receiving the newsletters and keeping up with the latest news.
Which leaves somewhere near 550 people who have made between 1-24 posts, which is quite a lot of folk. Hopefully this will bring some of them out and posting a bit more!

They still receive the newsletters, even if they've never logged in, so I assumed that's what they got out of it. There's been a couple of occasions where I've started 'My First Post' threads to try and entice them in, with notices in the newsletters, but never many bites!
Then now the most important question, can you check your stats and see i the posts increased or decreased after fsn started nagging for the centurion? :P :P

And a new busiest day ever on the Forum has been crowned! Wed 4th December 2013 is the new champion with 271 posts, beating out the previous best of 241 posts, set back in August this year.
That's now over 700 posts in the past 4 days, so what affect is this going to have on the 100k post? At this rate we'll hit it in a little over 2 weeks, but will this level of traffic continue? Or will people get dragged out Christmas shopping by the missus? Will a sudden snowstorm knock out the internet to those desolate little pockets of civilisation, like Techno's place... ;) :D

You must have big bloody Sparrowhawks in Wales!
Apparently female Sparrowhawks are big enough to down a pigeon.
Greetings
(A bit OT from 100k post but: My wife took a photo years ago of a sparrowhawk killing a pigeon (which was strutting around under the kitchen window and failed its observation check)).
Back on topic - the increase in posts is interesting but I am sure it will drop off. There's some good stuff though, which I am sure is Leon's intent.

Easy peasy. ;D
Seen them take pigeons off the barn roof. (Makes the chickens run for cover !!)....They are FAST !!
Also seen a female munching on a pigeon while I was looking through the kitchen window from around 3-4 feet away.
Much,
much bigger than you'd expect.
We also get bigger raptors around 'the farm', such as red kites and buzzards.
I SO wish I'd had the camera with me when a buzzard was sitting on a fence post close to the house.
The youngest cat we've got was sitting on the next fence post about 6 feet away from it......You could see the cat's mind working.
"I wonder if I could take that on ?"........And me going "Don't even
think it Mickey!".......It looks one and a half times bigger than you.
Cheers - Phil
Blimey. I knew they could but didn't think they did on a regular basis.
Don't see so many round here - Kestrels and plenty of buzzards mind and red kites now.
(Apologies for the derail please return to the usual flippery :))
Mate of mine had a three legged cat, it had lost a leg to a trap.
One day it caught a rabbit as we watched, and was bringing it home along a hedge line, when the local peragrin falcon stooped, obviously thinking 'I'll have a bit of that!'
The cat sat up on its back legs, watched the approaching dot at 200mph, and swatted it into the hedge with its one good leg, picked up the rabbit and trotted home!
Never seen a raptor look embarrassed!

Blimey. I knew they could but didn't think they did on a regular basis.
I think that the thing is Matt, that we don't even
notice the sparrowhawks taking the smaller 'garden' birds as prey....Whereas, when they hit a feral pigeon, at goodness knows what speed, there's an absolute explosion of feathers.....So there's no chance you would miss the fact, if you're outside.
My guess is, that the females will go for 'larger' prey if they've got young to feed....A bit like us doing a 'big shop', rather than doing lots of little trips.
Cheers - Phil.

It's always good to get more traffic, purely because it's nice to have more people about the place!
We've had 13 new members join up in the last couple of days, so the giveaway is tempting people in as well.

Well done Jay on a brilliant initial campaign to get to 25 posts, done with style, panache and no requests for British heavy tanks!

I do find that an odd way of doing the ranks though. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Exactly right, fsn. Which is why it's outranked by a Lieutenant General. I'd like to see us adopt the Hapsburg rank of Lieutenant Field Marshal. :D

"In fact, when I know what is meant by 'mamelon' and 'ravelin',
When I can tell at sight a chassepot rifle from a javelin
When such affairs as sorties and surprises I'm more wary at,
And when I know precisely what is meant by 'commissariat',
When I have learnt what progress has been made in modern gunnery,
When I know more of tactics than a novice in a nunnery;
In short, when I've a smattering of elemental strategy,
You'll say a better major-general has never sat a gee - "
I think W.S. Gilbert must have had an inkling of us lot.

Well, my suggestion for Tesla turrets for the 1946 line kind of implied heavy tanks. Of course at that stage in the game, I'd just assume any British tanks were built in Detroit. ;D ;D ;D ;D
Bit of a caddish remark, old man. Don't believe all you see from Hollywood.

Just ribbin' y'all. I am very well aware of the British role in the defeat of the Axis. We have indeed a special relationship among nations. And I served in Bosnia and Afghanistan with great British troops.

Hmmm. Well, if you've been introduced to "Bristols" you must have redeeming features.
Just to be clear though: Charlie Chaplin, Bob Hope, Stan Laurel, Cary Grant all British, and Errol Flynn is Australian.

Just to add to this. Gilbert originally wrote 'Chassepot rifle'. Some time after 1907, he changed this to 'Mauser rifle' because the Mauser was better known by then. 'Mauser rifle' is still sung today.

I'd say you've got two options there...
1. Find some way of crashing the Forum servers, resulting in around 3 weeks downtime.
OR
2. Kick the cat.

Well, the flurry of posts from (new) members to get that magic number 25 next to their name has subsided now. So maybe things will be a bit more quiet.
My current guess would be somewhere after the weekend. But that also depends on whether Nik (the tank-burning one) will be on-line again any time soon. If he is, we may well hit it the same day!

Yes, indeed - any rumours of my demise are exaggerated. Sorry 'bout that ;)
We've moved house - crazy, crazy stuff - got confirmation of completion with 2 days notice so it was totally manic...vastly overrated experience if you ask me.
Anyway, it means that we're now living in the middle of nowhere - in a holiday cottage on Exmoor, which is beautiful but it does mean that I have no landline, mobile signal or internet which is leaving me disconnected. It was great for the first week (last week) but this week I've been twitching a bit...and work is bonkers at the moment so I haven't even been able to get on here courtesy of my employers.
So - expect sporadic posting from me for the next 2-3 months...and try to behave, natch. :D
Last post is from 28 october, last active on 8th december, so he's been around, but not much. It would give him some extra time to paint, I would think. So Leon, any orders for 250 army packs going to the middle of Exmoor lately?

For crying out loud !!! Don't you know anything Steve !!
It's
two tin cans, with holes bored in the end of each one....and a piece of string stretched tightly between the tins, so that the vibrations pass along the string.... and the bases of the tins act as both transmitters and receivers.

I think it's appropriate that the winner is one of our longest serving members, someone who's been here for 3 1/2 years, almost since the site launched, and has contributed so much to the Forum. Congratulations again!
Commiserations to everyone else, especially those who were so close, like GordonY, and marshall1945 (who was busy posting this afternoon I noticed!) It's been a lot of fun watching the post count tick upwards, and we'll be certainly doing this again for the next milestone, whatever that may be. Thanks to everyone for taking part, I hope you enjoyed it as well.

...and a big thank you to the Pendraken chaps for their generosity and a bit of yuletide exitement :)

Congrats Fred and my guess was way off the mark. Probably a good thing given me lead mountain...
Is there a prize for making the 100000 post? :P

Congratulations Fred!
Thanks Leon.
And thanks to you and Pendraken for organising the competition - it certainly got me to update my painting diary rather more regularly again. And thank you for producing such great figures, despite dalliances with 28mm this year, I keep returning to Pendraken and 10mm for my core painting enjoyment and gaming.
And thanks to the rest of the forum denizens - you chaps (and chapesses) make this a great forum to visit each day, to read just the right mix of nonsense, help and great info.
Happy Christmas to Everyone!!

If you get that right, I'll give you £10,000 of credit. Although by 2029, that might not be worth a lot... :-\
So you're saying I have a chance... ;D

There's always a chance! As long as the interwebs haven't crashed by then, or Zombies have taken over the Pendraken workshop...

Aw man, if it hadn't been for the ice storm knocking us out here in Toronto, I'd have been posting like a very busy posting thing to make sure I won. :P
Anyway, more resistance / partisan fighters for WW2 please, especially female ones so we can also use them for VBCW. That'll make up for it. ;)
What a great Christmas present Fred. Well done!
