Are we all huddling in our offices with several layers of clothing and the heater on? Or is that just me?

Before a flurry of activity erupts, I would like to point the esteemed Forumites in the direction of the Dead Horse Trope:

No, we're trying to work out how to slip the next lead order past the mrs without being marmalised!
Certainly not in the tropics!
I'm stuck in the works garage having a good clear out, wearing 5 layers to keep warm. Every hours or so I pop back into the workshop to warm up!
I am about to go down the beach nice and sunny here in West Wales

Woke up to a dusting of snow and sleet today. Things are quiet and cold in the office here as well.

When I was married I used to get orders posted to work, then forget to fill out the cheque (remember those) stub so their was no incriminating evidence. Not sure what you married blokes do now with online banking etc.
Honest I was down the beach in the sun I would say ask Techno but he lives the other side of the misty mountains where the sun is worshiped as a god as it is so rare :D

Seriously, as long as i keep to the budget she doesn't mind. Have ordered about 160 last month, and am spending as much this month so it's all good, That'll keep me occupied for 2 weeks for sure ;D

sun?...*thinks*.....nope.....Is it a foreign word?
-4 degrees here this morning for the bike ride in and once again down in the garage on the annual clear out. I'll be wrapped up like the Michelin man :).

-5 when I left home, -3 when I got to the unit, and it's only 6 degrees inside! Might just stick my head in the melting pot today... :(
Coldest night of this winter so far over here.
Brrrrrr. (Awesome sunrise though.)
Cheers - Phil.
I set off too early to see the sunrise which is a shame, and also away from it. Just come into the workshop to warm up as my eyeballs are cold :o.
Sunrise? What sunrise? Thick blanket of freezing fog in the vales up to 80m odd, and hill fog at 100+m here, the gap between! is a winter woinderland!! :D
Yep, still some black ice about when driving the other half to the station. I may yet regret buying a rear-wheel drive motor.
(We're discussing the weather - how British is that?) ;)
I've come back in the office to warm up for a bit. It's gone up to 8 degrees in the unit, but still not exactly warm... :'(

Cheers - Phil.
My snowman fell over, there's only slush left outside now...
The office is the only warm bit in the unit, out in the casting area it's absolutely baltic.
Stroll on...
It must be blanking cold if the molten 'hot pots' aren't putting out enough heat to give you a bit of warmth.
Cheers - Phil.....(Who has just been outside to break the ice on the troughs.)
Minus 6.5 this morning. Whatever happened to the Gulf Stream? :'(
It's collapsing to the south.
I was always told the West of Britain is a lot warmer than the east due to the North Atlantic Drift, this is why Shetland often looks warmer on weather forecasts - they don't count wind chill I guess!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2635167 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2635167)
Certainly warmer in the West Lemmey......Barely a frost in Pembs this morning.....But it sounds as though we've got some nasty stuff coming overnight.
Oh goody....The snow will get driven off the fields and into the road....Cut off again for a couple of days......Sigh !
Gulf stream Ray ?.....Hasn't someone switched that off ? ;)
Cheers - Phil
A balmy 4 degrees in the garage today, but sods law I'm clearing a room out today. Snow forecast tomorrow so should make for an interesting cycle ride in.
Yes, I learned that in Geography in school. It gets colder the further east you go in winter (south to north in summer). Essex always gets the snow first and heaviest down here - and they're only just down the road.
-6 outside, 5 degrees inside today. I'm not a cold weather person at all... >:(

An interesting cycle into work this morning, especially as I have road tyres which have sod all grip in snow! It's going to worse going home as the snow will be compacted and like ice.
Bloomin' 'eck !
Don't think I'll try that again in a hurry !
Walked about 800 yards up the road to take a few piccies....A handful of drifts maybe a couple of foot high, where the snow had been blasted off a field and through a gate....No-one else as stupid as me outside...No sign of any tyre tracks...
Decided that was far enough....(I wasn't going any further to see if the road was completely blocked, like it was a couple of years ago, where there were 5-6 foot drifts for perhaps 200 yards.)
Hadn't realized until I turned around, that it hadn't been too bad walking away from home.....'Cos the wind was behind me.
Coming back....I couldn't see a sodding thing, as my specs were being plastered with snow....and it suddenly seemed to be another 10 degrees colder.
Did notice a couple of people in cars trying to make it into the local village.....Hmmmm...I reckon a tractor would have a chance...But I'm not sure about even a 4x4.
It's SO good to be back inside the warm.
Cheers - Phil.
I nearly forgot....In the morning.....The 'huskies' usually take themselves for a run around the fields for 20-30 minutes before condescending to come back.
This morning they were back after about 2 minutes......Wimps ! ;D ;D
Stay safe & warm Techno

(22 miles from home along b-roads, it's just started, this could be fun, plus I'm on break duty today!)
Just started here - and settling.
Yep !
Everyone take care today !....And keep warm.
Hope it won't be quite as vile for you, as it is here Ray.
(Glad Mrs Techno did a quick 'food shop' yesterday.) :)
Cheers - Phil.
Somebody'd just poked a flyer through my door advertising garden services. Now that's what I call optimism! :D
Right, after a careful cycle ride home, it will be a case of clearing the drive and paths to the house, and then fingers crossed get to play in the snow :). However the snow has eased off here and looks a bit like sleet now :(.
Just had 20 minute break duty with all the kids telling me when they were going home and when school will close...
Wish someone had told me! :'(
I'll be telling Dave I'm finishing early as well, got some computer work to catch up on, so going to do it in the comfort of my own home, with the Boro game on the TV! :-bd
Almost stopped snowing over here....But not quite.
Wind's still blowing the damn stuff off the fields and dumping it in the road.....Deep joy !
Wouldn't be able to get out of the drive anyway....So that's irrelevant really. ;D ;D ;D
Just SO looking forward to going out and feeding the sheep later ! :'( :'(
Cheers - Phil.
Sitting at work. Hardly anyone here; no students, no tutors. The powers that be appear to have decided that the College will NOT close.
So roll on 5pm. Darkness, snow, traffic jams, etc.
Been snowing all sodding day!!
Chad
Bitterly cold here now with a strong easterly wind blowing. The cycle ride home was interesting to say the least until I was able to get onto something akin to a main road. All other roads were compacted snow and as slippery as ice. Cycle paths were treacherous! Damned glad I don't have to get to work until Monday afternoon now :).

Fun
Stopped snowing here and the stuff may even be melting. However, getting out of our street means going uphill - and the road's like glass. Never was so much power expended to so little result. There goes my winter fuel allowance. :'(

Hasn't snowed in SW Wales today... :-bd.....They even cleared our little road yesterday....So Mrs Techno and I risked a very small shopping trip into the local village...
Thank goodness we've a got a 4 wheel drive...We wouldn't have made it up one hill without it.
One fairly impressive drift that has been plowed through was a good five foot high.....Without any extra snow being dumped on the top by the 'JCB'.
It was fun trying to avoid all the numptys that were trying to toboggan down the sides of the road... ???....I mean "Why ?" ...When there are lots of nice hills around here where they could have gone, without the danger of being clobbered by a car.
Cheers - Phil.

Thanks someone who installed the engine warmer in the car, the only upside of this kind of cold spell are that its not snowing... So hopefully we have had our share of the pesky white thing for this season. We got about 60 cm, which is less than average. :D
Been snowing in SW Wales AGAIN too.....Though we've only had an extra 5-7cm....Still bad enough.

1/2 inch of even spread last night. Oh, and some snow too! Made getting home from Parent's evening fun! :-< :-/
Rain last night, so all the roads are clear again. Supposedly more snow coming this weekend, but we'll wait and see on that. 6 degrees in the unit today, so still not exactly tropical yet.
Brief snow flurries here in Herts. None of it settled and the existing stuff is definitely thawing. (Famous last words!) :-B

Never realised you have moose in Norway. You learn something new every day! :o
I use the Moose name because I thought it would be recognisable (and it was), the Norwegian name for it is Elg.
Biggest critters we got over here and the second most hunted specie, cooked right its very tasty but because of the leaness of the meat it easy to overcook to something thats rather leathery. :)
WOW! :o SUNSHINE! 8)
Elk in English. Moose in American. And do look up Elizabeth David's recipe for Cervo con salsa di ciliegie (venison with cherry sauce), which can be like making love with Halle Berry with Mozart playing the accompaniment on a piano behind a discreet screen...come to think of it, most men doing the deed with her wouldn't want privacy, would they? Rather a live video feed.
(rushes off for a cold shower)
Ahh, the old "two countries separated by a common language" trick... The few discussions I`ve had in English regarding Elk, have been with Americans and they have the notion that an Elk is some sort of deer... :D Hence the "Moose" tag... ;D
Will look for the recipe, if its half as delicious as Halle Berry, its a treat...
I fear my post may have given the misleading impression that I speak from personal experience of enjoying the favours of Miss Berry while Mozart serenaded us. This is not in fact the case.

You'd have been better off with Liszt or Chopin - both brilliant pianists. That's always supposing you actually wanted them to play the piano, of course.
