Am I missing something? A quick search threw up some hate directed towards him for the new (again :() 40K book, so this post refering to this?
All his crimes... gray knights, blood angles... You choose
Until this thread I can say I had never heard of the guy...but from what I read online is true I dont think its possibly any worse then previous 40K editions where they used the same old tired rules and where the new codexes inticed the lost and bewildered to buy a new army every year ( Its GW's business after all)...And what about the Bolt Action rules writen by ex GW staff, from what I have read about them they should be thrown in a bin until they come up with a original idea, and they dont seem to get villified for it.
I think it's fairly well-accepted though that Mr Ward has taken the GW-ness of it to a whole new level...have a read here (it'll make you smile, probably)

I'm quite happy with a quick flick of my 3rd edition 40k every now & then :)

Depending on what's on offer at the time, I can pick some virtually new ones from the local market from £1-50 to £2.00
(The lady that sells them, seems to buy DVDs by the armful....watch them once....and if she's not
really impressed, the DVDs go straight on the stall.)
Which reminds me 'V'...
She's got wodges of Dr Who memorabilia.....Anything you're particularly after, if you're into that sort of thing ?
Cheers - Phil.

That's what my wife says too!! :D
How about a pounds worth of 2p coins.
50 one inch round bases for a quid, try getting 50 slotted bases for that!
Ok I_am_win cock flavoured soup is on the list!
Lemmey, £1 worth of 2p's, lol common, you can't slot a model into a 2p! Credit were due, games workshop are really good at putting a slot we're its needed!
how about getting him a new job? Playing against (or with) the crap he has done at GW..... or make him PAY for the models he uses...
Cannot imagine anything worse than letting someone do THAT while two gentlemen do REAL wargames on the table next to him...
How about a beer for helping to introduce people to the hobby?
I was going to get him a Monkey At A Typewriter, so he could do his job for him, and do much better, but I think I'd give him the gift I would actually give him if I met him. So put me down for...
A BOOT TO THE HEAD (From Dim_Reapa)
I've even left him one in my will...

very good point chaps ! :) ;)
True ??

Only if you spike the beer and drop him off in Syria afterwards....
I personally have nothing against they guy, since I no longer play 40K, nor buy any GW stuff directly.(just stuff off ebay/others)
For me, it's just the Mob mentality, since the GW of today stinks, he seems to be the one to blame (Well, current scapegoat anyway) so that'll do for me!! ;D
Seriously though, maybe it is right about him bringing new un's into the hobby, not that I'd buy him a drink (remember, I already bought him a hamper that had "prick" cola in it)
I actually think that GW might have a genuine system that creates serious wargamers by the eventual realisation that all they are interested in is cold hard cash, rather than passion for the hobby as a whole. These disillusioned GWites then develop an anti-GW sentiment and develop a taste for real own to earth wargaming and grow more as a person with a better gaming world view (rather than a blinkered "there's only GW and no one else" version of events)
So for that fact alone, they should be applauded.....
Nail on the head I-A-W.
Cheers - Phil.
Well honestly i have nothing against gw games, i have played them since '97.
But i think that's just the problem, i know what it used to cost me, and i see what it costs now. That makes the price increases more notable to me than to someone new in the game.
I understand that life is getting more epensive, and that the price can't stay the same, so that's not the biggest issue for me. The problem is that the price goes up, and the quality goes down. Now you can say whatever you want, it's the truth.
I still have the army books i bought back in '97, and they are still pretty much intact. I have books from gw i bought A year or two ago, that fell apart after a month of use.
I also have lots and lots of their metal LOTR minis, wich are fine, but the last thing i bought were 8 uruk hai crossbows in finecast. They were warped, full of bubbles, missing entire pieces and even contained other coloured pieces. (wich i guess are he result of a bad mixing of the resin compounds)
Now in both cases i contacted customer service at gw and in both cases i got a new item from them. Now this is all fine and dandy, where it not that the replacement book lost aa page on the first time i opened it, and the replacement finecast urks where just as bad as my first batch...
I guess i'll just stick to my epic 40k armies for my gw needs from now on :D

I concur but, the big but, is whether YOU as a gentleman REAL wargamer want those EX-GWplayers gaming within a 500 mile radius around your gaming table much less the same system(s). Like the plague they should stick to their side of the universe and keep their "uninformed ignorance". leaves the fun parts of the hobbies for us...think about it and you will agree.

:-\ :-\ :-\
On one side.....There
might well be
a proportion of ex GW gamers that you
would possibly want to avoid at the table....
On the other; I'd be very surprised if there were NOT a good number of our esteemed forum's members (maybe even the majority ??) who 'cut their teeth' on the 'Evil Empire's' models and rules systems.
After all, there are, to my knowledge, half a dozen or so of us who've admitted to actually
working for them in the past.
My guess is that you've been really unlucky sebigboss....and met more than your fair share of those we
would all want to avoid.
I tend to agree with Sandanista....We all started somewhere. ;)
Hope this comes across in the spirit it's intended. :)

Peter What do you have against Syria??????? :d :d
:-\ :D :D ;D ;D
It does Phil, you know I am an old ranter and cynic.
Unfortunately you are correct. I have yet to meet a "gentleman gamer" in any GW System. Also I have not met one person who was open to try new things in gaming. Possibly Germans are a bit more narrowminded in gaming. Another reason for me to come here :D .
But seriously the "fairness" level is significantly rising if the game is balanced and the gamers more mature. Starmada, Urban War and Mercs...haven't met any person there I would hesitate to talk to a second time. Fair enough GW has the largest fanbase and unfortunately their way of doing business attracts characters that we all want to avoid at the board. Being competitive and the desire to win should not supersede the "having a great time" with a likeminded person.
You are also correct that I suspect most forum members HERE to offer a challenging but pleasing game experience. The fact that some are EX-GW employees could also be interpreted that they have chosen (whether deliberately or not) they do not agree with certain ways of GWs business approach.
To be fair on Mad Ward ( :D ) he is just the "product" of his surrounding. The philosopher I am still does not let him (or GW) off for ruining wargaming in my eyes.
I would agree with Sandinista would it not take both sides. I am more than willing to offer good gaming in any system I play. But most people prefer staying in their own little GW-world. Sad but true.
I have played one Warhammer gamer at my old club who was fun to play against and picked an army full of character, rather than one to win. A rarity I must admit. However for Mordheim I only ever encountered 3 players who picked beardy warbands. Everyone else went for character and fun and as a result were a pleasure to play against.
And THAt is how it should be!
Hear, hear ! :-bd

I count myself lucky in that all of my regular gaming chums are thoroughly decent chaps who play for fun and in the right spirit. Naturally we all like to win but would rather have a fun game and lose than win at all costs. After all they are only games and not a matter of life and death.
I did initially enjoy playing Warhammer and it's wonderfully rich background, for me the Empire was my thing, but quickly became disillusioned by constantly playing power gamers at the club :(. I still have the army book and will use this as reference for Imaginations games with WMA etc.
An admirable philosophy Steve.
After all......It's supposed to be FUN, isn't it ?

Fortunately I have not encountered any outside GW Systems :-bd
Maybe because the Rules discourage Powergaming and the Community totally excludes Powergamers?
Try Powergaming in Starmada, you either end up with your Spacefleet in your intestines or your opponent leaves before you touch the second mini to move....
WHICH is better for wargaming in the longrun seems pretty obvious to me.
