After many lengthy and ground breaking discussions on anything other than tanks I have been awarded the rank of Field Marshal. Drinks at the Officer's club on me - 1300 hours sharp, mess kit or dinner jacket.
Congratulations. I'll have a pint of Absinthe - the good old fashioned stuff, not the sanitised modern version.
FSN will be along in a mo I am sure, but his kit is always messy :)
P.S Best not to ponder on how much time you spend on here to get to your exalted rank. It could get you in trouble :)
Large soda water, two drops of Angostura bitters for me. :)
I'll raise a glass of Duvel to your promotion, Field Marshal. Cheers!
Congrats! Mine will have to be some mineral water or orange juice I'm afraid, as at present it's the best thing post-op.
Pan Galactic Gargleblaster if you please, Steward!
Well deserved promotion, if I may say so, what, what!
Here's to further rises through the ranks!
Gentlemen, I give you "A Bloody War or A Sickly Season!"
Chin, chin!
Congratulations
Take care
Andy
Congratulations from me, too, you old war dog! <:-P
It's getting a good crowd
Well done.
Mine's a pint of moet.
Congratulations, Sir. Well deserved ... though I am reminded of the Gilbert O'Sullivan song ...
"In fact, when I know what is meant by "mamelon" and "ravelin",
When I can tell at sight a chassepĂ´t rifle from a javelin,
When such affairs as sorties and surprises I'm more wary at,
And when I know precisely what is meant by "commissariat",
When I have learnt what progress has been made in modern gunnery,
When I know more of tactics than a novice in a nunnery:
In short, when I've a smattering of elemental strategy,
You'll say a better Major-General has never sat a gee---
For my military knowledge, though I'm plucky and adventury,
Has only been brought down to the beginning of the 20th century;
But still in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral,
I am the very model of a modern Field Marshal."
Just water for me thanks, but I'll sill raise it to you.
Can't be too far behind you in posts, I must be near 10K by now.
Hrm. Maybe a little more posting needed to reach you.
Bravo!
I'll take a single malt, cheers to you! :D
Congrats Field Marshal! :D
A dirty martini please
Then the dirty barmaid.
:o Ooer, what have I started?
Dinner jacket no longer buttons, but congratulations.
I would relish a beaker of tranya.
Good Man.... what's the next level??
Congratulations - a pint of Burning Sky Plateau please
I'll have to be more frugal with my posts as I prefer a combat command <)
Congratulations Sir
Thanks to all for your kind words. Looking to continue moving forward and continuing to contribute. :)
Congrats, Andy ! :-bd
I'll have a bottle of gin. (And I'll be coming in messy kit)
Cheers - Phil

The nearest we have to a Dirty Barmaid is Nobby. So your welcome to him.
There's me thinking it was LH.
TMI !!!!
Cheers - Phil.

Isn't it a Mauser? Certainly scans better.
I don't recognise those lyrics from that awfully nice Mr O'Sullivan.
Mind you, back at the Evil Empire, I can remember a certain Dave Andrews...who might even still work there quoting, "I AM the pirate King !"...an awful lot of the time
The sod even put a photocopy on the wall..... of a piccy of the charge of the Light Brigade, with a speech bubble towards a trooper (?) at the back (with an arrow saying "Phil") , saying "Where are we ****ing going ?"
Dave was (and I hope still is) a truly great bloke.
Cheers - Phil
As far as I can tell chassepot and mauser have the same number of syllables (unless you are from Provence).
See what you mean. I was reading the French weapon with English eyes.
