After many lengthy and ground breaking discussions on anything other than tanks I have been awarded the rank of Field Marshal. Drinks at the Officer's club on me - 1300 hours sharp, mess kit or dinner jacket.

Congratulations.  I'll have a pint of Absinthe -  the good old fashioned stuff, not the sanitised modern version.

FSN will be along in a mo I am sure, but his kit is always messy  :)

P.S Best not to ponder on how much time you spend on here to get to your exalted rank. It could get you in trouble  :)

Large soda water, two drops of Angostura bitters for me. :)

I'll raise a glass of Duvel to your promotion, Field Marshal. Cheers!

Congrats! Mine will have to be some mineral water or orange juice I'm afraid, as at present it's the best thing post-op.

Congratulations, Sir. Well deserved ... though I am reminded of the Gilbert O'Sullivan song ...

"In fact, when I know what is meant by "mamelon" and "ravelin",
When I can tell at sight a chassepĂ´t rifle from a javelin,
When such affairs as sorties and surprises I'm more wary at,
And when I know precisely what is meant by "commissariat",
When I have learnt what progress has been made in modern gunnery,
When I know more of tactics than a novice in a nunnery:
In short, when I've a smattering of elemental strategy,
You'll say a better Major-General has never sat a gee---

For my military knowledge, though I'm plucky and adventury,
Has only been brought down to the beginning of the 20th century;
But still in matters vegetable, animal, and mineral,
I am the very model of a modern Field Marshal."
