Looks like 'ol Liz needs to step aside for this girl who clearly is now rightful ruler of England.
QuoteOh but if I went 'round sayin' I was Emperor, just because some
moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!
It doesnt look like its terribly old at all, let alone the real Excalibur as the news tried to spin it.
Reminded me of an old article where some dude pulled a Dalek out of a bog...

That one hasn't been underwater since the 5th century, looks like is only been there a year at most.

As you say.......It's lasted very, very well as it's supposed to be over a thousand years old. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
(That's the Daily Mirror for you.) ;)
Cheers - Phil

I think dear old dad snuck it in for her to find, so the article should read
"Dad of the Year makes daughters dream a reality"
Matilda indeed
"Listen mate - strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not some farcical aquatic ceremony. If I went around saying I was the Emperor of China because some moisten bint had lobbed a scimitar at me they'd put me away!"
;D
The forum has turned into Camelot today. All I can say is:
''FREEDOM!"

Rightful king of the Britons, surely?
Does this mean all the Anglo-Saxons are going to be pushed back to Germany? ;D
Cheers, Martyn
It's not very Arturian is it? More Landsknecht than Lancelot.
Unless of course, Merlin caught the sword from the future using some kind of temporal spell, then imbued it with great power, like being able to lie in a lake without basically falling to bits.
Yes. That seems more likely.
But she looks a sweetie and so proud!
I was too obtuse, I believe it is Mel's sword.
4 foot sword, exactly the same height as Matilda, see first picture, hilt above her head ~X(
Photographer to little girl, run with the sword, it's much safer than scissors ;D
Lucky that's all she caught in a welsh pond. Full of rats p*ss and sheep droppings. She could have caught something nasty.

The one she tossed away after
Great British Bake Off got moved to Channel 4?
That's obtuse to 96.3% of the world.

Logical outcome of Brexit I'd say
Of course it doesn't look old, it's Excalibur and magic!
Dur :P
I'm surprised it looks as rusty as it does, fifteen centuries shouldn't have done that much damage.
Disturbing that an English paper (or Welsh father) can't tell the difference between lie and lay.
English evolves in usage, it is as used, not some frozen calcified thing :D

Fun as it is - stop pulling kitties tail, he cant help having a redundant version of English as his 1st tounge.

I think your estimate is a tad low, he wispered
Wasn't there tins of beer or lager called Excalibur? In a blue tin, if memory serves me correct.

Cor, that looks terrible - right up there with the old purple tin! I'll bet no ones English is very comprehensible after a couple of those :D

Wow. Ian is defending an Americanism. Alert the media!

No. You're obviously too young!
Besides which, when you drank that glass of port we had three chambermaids in the infirmary for weeks ... as well as two page boys, the blacksmith's dog and the Duke of Westmorland, who, might I remind you is 76!
The blacksmith's dog will never look a pork chipolata in the eye again without wincing.
Neither, to be fair, will the Duke of Westmorland.
Insolence! :d
I say, chaps. The new chap seems to be getting in to the swing of things. A proper chap's chap.
Cheers Ithoriel.
Seems a funny brew, though. Top of the tin it calls itself a beer... and at the bottom a lager! Is it transitioning?

Bodmin in Wales?

"Lager (German: storeroom or warehouse) (Czech: ležák) is a type of beer originating from the Austrian Empire (now Czech Republic) that is conditioned at low temperatures, normally at the brewery. It may be pale, golden, amber, or dark." - wikipedia

He's better as the German pilot in
Hope and Glory.
Best work ofc is as Guy of Gisbourne in Robin of Sjerwood! OoooOooOoo, the hooded man!
Barring GoT was there a grittier fantasy drama on mainstream TV? !
Although now I want to watch Excalibur again, I have a serious soft spot for it. Also, Helen Mirren in fantasy-goth outfits is not unhelpful in its popularity. Quickly FSN, to the Top Totty thread!

I remember enjoying it at the time, but gritty? It was on at teatime, early Saturday evening. Think there's a limit to how gritty you can get at that time of the day!

An excellent idea. Do so immediately.
Edit: And also, has there ever been a better Guinevere than Cherie Lunghi (and yes, I am not forgetting Kiera)?

Gritty for sure. Murder, black magic, rapacious aristo's who are vicious and rapacious, and everything covered in mud :D Also, they kill characters :D Although the boob quotient is low compared to GoT, to be sure!
I'll suggest Excalibur to the other half tonight, see if it floats :)
I've always had a soft spot for Cherie Lunghi, too!
Cheers for the info. I obviously didn't know that about lager, and always thought it some't different. Obviously, being a Yorkshire man, I only ever drank, either, Tetley's, John Smith's, or Theakston and then it was Bitter that I supped ;)
Never heard of (or seen) Excalibur, if I'm honest.
Aah! Theakston's "Old Peculiar" a favourite of mine. So appropriate for me ... on both counts :D
