What's that guy in the middle doing with a round shield. He'll get told off by the General, he will ;)
Now that I see all the red shields with different devices I like the look. :-bd
Great work, Will !! 8)

Looking great Will!
Does occur to me that the Principes, which means first, are the second line of troops.
That the hastati, which means spearmen, are armed with gladius and pila.
However, the third line, which carrier a spear unlike the hastati, are at least called the triarii
(http://s3.hubimg.com/u/4727434_f520.jpg)
...and fusiliers and grenadiers were generally armed with muskets, and some US cavalry units have never had horses....
Heath suggests that a hasta was originally a generic spear, and that principes were first in the sense of the troops who were experienced but not yet decrepit, thus most important.
It's brass monkeys here in Rome, to change the subject.
More good looking units there, ML
Very nice indeed
Take care
Andy
Nice!
Love the legionaries and the command units both.
Cool. I reckon you've sold me on using these figures if I did a Basic Impetus 2
Great looking army Will. Re the guy with the round shield. Isn't he the signifer as he needs two hands to carry the pole, so straps a smaller round shield to his left arm. I will also be using mine with BI2, and taking on the empires to the east.
The chap with the round shield comes in the command pack, so I figured figuratively he was the command figure, go figure,
Haven't looked at that pack for ages, so I'll give him a look.
Good job Will......the painting machine just keeps going :D
Look great :)
Slight detour from the Renaissance, 4 more bases of Hastataii!

Deliberately? Or like Bugs Bunny, "shouldn't have turned left at Albuquerque".
Very nice, indeed, Will.

Perhaps he
is the general. It was acceptable to command from the ranks of the hastati.

They look great, and a very versatile figure that would not look out of place in any later Hellenistic army.
Very nice painting and basing.
Martin
Looking good!
Very nice indeed

20 Triarii, these are for III Legion, newly raised and average, hence the monotonal shields. Like the way I've managed to get them into a 'last stand'!

Another unit of Trarii!

Hastatii from Legio III

These chaps are either Roman elite light troops (in a four) or Italian allied light troops (in a six), made from a mix of Italian infantry, Velites Hastatii and Triarii

Elephants - these are the Carthaginian elephants, with converted Cretan archers and Triarii as crew, plus a few Cretans and Velites escorts, just because they look cool! I tried a little tromp d'oeye on the howdahs, for a laugh.

Flippin' heck, Will.....
I know, we know Peter C has reached his goal of 1,000 figures this year....And lots of them were 'bigger scales'.....But how many wee men do you reckon you've painted over the past 12 months ?
Cheers - Phil.
At the last count, ie before this lot... 2531
Will is like a machine the way he churns these figures out, I wish I could go at his speed, my trouble is I'm always flitting from one thing to the other
Take care

I am really beginning to envy your production line. There is a chap in our club who also has the speed gift. We're convinced he's signed a pact with the Devil.
Painted these in May, used them for Cmapaign finally got round to basing them!
