Following the survey of armies you expect to lose with, which ones do you start a battle with in reasonable hopes of victory?
Mine would be either 17th century Poles, which can usually dominate the cavalry action and have enough good infantry to be a match for the enemy foot until the horse turn their flank, or ancient Iberians, who usually outscout the opposition and pack a hell of a punch in the charge.
None.
In every solo game I am confident of leading an army to victory :)
Knowing me it would be a draw.
Mapuche
What the 'eck is that? Or have you got hayfever?
These appear popular, then.
I think I could win with this one (particularly if the air arm is included):

But Pendraken hasn't made the figures yet :(

You've had it if there's rain! I also note there are enemy agents in your ranks.

Actually they are recent converts to "The Cause". The rain, I think, is a threat only to thier command piece.

Mapuche, only integrated into Chilie in 1883, when someone brought along machine guns! They famously met the conquistadors for the first time in battle, lost, next time, they adopted pikes, stole firearms, taught themselves how to use lances on stolen horses, adopted cannibalism after they found the Spanish were afraid of them, burned Valperaso and various other Spanish settlement, repeatedly, and kept their independence while the rest of native South America rolled over. They beat the Incas in a four day battle and wiped out the Spanish armies, twice!

You lucky, lucky b@$ta@rds. I lose every time ;) :D ;D
One that usually did well from r me was Great Northern War Swedes, as long as I could stop the cavalry charguing before I wanted them to do so. My forces did usually include some Tremanning units as well as more regular infantry. We used the GåPå rules.

Somewhere in between. :D
It doesn't really matter which army I use, I always start out feeling reasonably confident...and then the game starts. But I do like my Mongols and have a 50% win rate with them (out of 2 games).

My AWI British had got off to a good run of back to back victories and then fell spectacularly in their last outing against a bunch of raggedy rebels.
I have a New Kingdom Egyptian army in 20mm plastics, painted and based for Warhammer Ancients. They haven't been used for years but they do/did tend to win most battles. Even when they lose one particular unit of spearmen always refuse to break. :)
Great Northern War Swedes. We used Black Powder rules and started out by
giving the Swedish cavalry lots of bonuses. After they massacred the Russian
cavalry without breaking sweat, a re-think was called for. Strangely enough,
the Swedes were quite popular for a while...
This lot have got a disproportionately high win-rate. Is is becos they is French? ;)

Love it! ;D
My early Byzantine army has the best win rate of any of my army
Cheers
Ian
Almost any army I'm using against Orcs or Last Hussar! :d :d :d
My 1944 Brits fare a lot better now that I've beefed up the off-table artillery with 5.5" howitzers other assorted nastiness.
All those years throwing Shermans at Panzers and every history book told me that artillery was the way to go!
I added battleships to mine...

Back in the WRG Modern days one guy apparently used an unstoppable human wave Chinese army, no tactics, no fun to play
Until the day his opponent turned up with an FAC, B52, Nukes :d

My 15 Shermans in mid-war FOW were pretty unstoppable last weekend.

I am generally most confident about winning with the army I am currently buying and painting. Once the result hits the table it's pretty much down hill.
;D ;D ;D
Took part in the Warmaster Ancients completion at Attack in Devises a couple of weeks ago.
Hugely enjoyable show, very friendly games and excellent beer and curry in the evening.
By lunch time on Sunday I had an ALMOST unassailable lead, my Assyrians had shot, fought and trampled all before them; Victory was in my grasp, all that was required was at worst a loosing draw, a mediocre showing (which I'm quite accomplished at) would clinch victory.
However Ashur is a fickle master, after a couple of minor successes early in the game the Mighty Assyrian Army was unable to command anything, shoot anything, fight anything or save anything.
After an hour I'd been broken and gone down to an 11:1 defeat and dropped to 3rd place.
I no longer have any confidence in any army I own, but it won't stop me trying, just not with the Assyrians for a while.
Good control and shooting, but oh, how one longs for a few lances, pila, pikes, LTS, or 2HCW with that lot.

Since you were playing Fran, also from Lancaster, that must have been a long, quiet journey home!
How did he do? ;)

He surged to the top of the table and won.
But it took him a weeks and half to walk home.
