Hello from West Dorset

Mike
Welcome to the forum!
Somewhere in the depths of a cupboard here I have a 6mm Napoleonic Polish army waiting to be painted, along with half a hundredweight of other unpainted lead :)
I hope your painting proceeds faster than mine!
From experience, the smaller the figures the less detail you need to paint but you need slightly lighter shades of a colour to make it look right.
There are plenty of people on here who are considerably better painters than I and who are happy to offer help and advice should you need it.
My experience has been that the forum vibe is relaxed, friendly and helpful. Don't let the random bursts of inanity and insanity put you off, the in-jokes become clear in time and the denizens here are good natured and, as the Hitch-hiker's Guide say,"mostly harmless" :)
Welcome :-h
As Ithoriel has said the majority of us are "mostly harmless" and happy to offer differing opinions and contradictory advice :)
There are a number of true experts on the forum as well who are wonderfully generous with assistance :D
Enjoy
Welcome to the forum and the wonderfull world of 10mm, loads of great folks on here who will help if you need it. :-bd
A very warm welcome, Mike.
Cheers - Phil
Hello and welcome Mike.
Welcome on board Mike :)
What ho, Mr Alt!
Welcome. Come for the excellent 10mm figures, speedy and reliable service, and low, low prices (no, I don't get paid for this, I'm just a Pendraken groupie) and stay for the convivial inanity.
Lots of people here can give you good advice about painting, and I can always post some of mine so you can feel superior.
Welcome Mike. How you paint up is a matter of personal taste. I've tried all sorts of methods - white undercoat. grey undercoat, black undercoat, shading, using a wash to shade, etc, etc. However the one concrete piece of advice I was given by a wargaming Phd chemical engineer was always prime before using an undercoat. Ordinary gaming paint does not prime bare metal, so make sure the base coat states that it is a primer. Apparently ordinary paint cannot bond very well with metal. As these figures are small there is not a lot of surface area so first priming and finally varnishing are essential to keep the paint on. And yes, there is a fair amount of lunacy on here from time to time.
Welcome Mike
Take care
Andy
A warm welcome from me, too! :-h
Hello :-h
Welcome aboard!
Just watch out for that "lemmey" character. He's mad you know! :D
And?
I'd have been tempted to mention 'Pot, Kettle & Black', Will.
Cheers - Field Marshall Sensible. :D
As a Field Marshal he certainly knows his drill ........... or maybe not. :)
Got the bit between your teeth there!
That was re Techno, Lemmy. wouldn't be surprised if he did get the bit between his teeth one day.
That would be boreing
Welcome Cern! It was calculated once that a 25mm figure has the surface area of 6.7 10mm figures. Or maybe it was 67 - anyway they are way smaller and its a lot easier to start over when you mess up :D
hail and well met.

Thought of a brilliant reply, but good manners prevent me from putting it on the forum (I don't know whats come over me :o) - I am still chuckling several minutes later.
Welcome Mike
You will find us friendly helpful and sometimes insane, more the latter in FSN's case
FSN, is not quite the groupie he claims to be - Just ask him where his 10mm T35's came from :)
However you will get excellent service and help from the Pendraken team.
Orc !
We all know FSN claims they were given to him in a flash of bright light and loud music
Before Pendraken even did 10mm T35s!
The Dark lord has accepted this and punished him with 10 years of bad dice throws!
Regards
Sean
P.S. Welcome Mike

But as we know he only plays with himself, He is a solo wargamer so the bad dice throw punishment does not work as both sides suffer the same problem.

It is true. I have deviated from the true path, and hate myself for it. :(Those T35s remind me of my infidelity every time they break down before getting anywhere near the hated Fascists. (Perhaps I need to ease up on that special rule.) They are, however, only place holders until they can be replaced by what will obviously be superior Pendraken versions. :D

Welcome aboard.
Thanks for all the replies Been painting since old Minifigs were 8p each yes 8p :'(
I remember the early Citadel range(s) at 14p each....But nothing as low as 8p. :o
Cheers - Phil
I believe my first Minifigs figures were a shilling each. That's 5p! Exorbitant in comparison with the Airfix figures I had been using.
I remember the furore over the first figures that were £1 for a single 25mm mini - Mithril Miniatures iirc.
Ah, happy days! :)

I think we were getting Peter Laing 15mm figures for 1p back in the 70's.
First ones I bought were 4p!
I remember the Peter Laing stuff being bought in bulk by a sort of club consortium, Jim. I imagine that brought the price down a bit.
Still have some of the Romans I bought back then .... unpainted :-[

I think, originally, the figures were retailed at 2p each but our club got a substantial discount as we bought them in bulk, thousands of them.

I am the custodian of the clubs Crimean collection, all by Peter Laing, there are quite a few.
