Title: airfix blast from the past, painted almost 20 years after buying
Post by: petercooman on 28 April 2015, 09:09:25 PM
I had the gun emplacement assault set as a kid, decided to finally paint it up now  :o

All these years left untouched and it actually only took 2 hours from start to finish!

Mine got conquered by Chief Lazy Dog Sleeps Late of the Ogala tribe. Still, the Wehrmacht conquered the stockade fort a few times too.

Great work, Peter.

Though I certainly collected the Airfix 'armies', I never bothered with many of the kits, so this is a 'new' one to me.  :)
Cheers - Phil

Nice job there. Never had any of the big Airfix stuff myself but I had loads of the vacuum formed Bellona terrain.

Lovely job

This , the pontoon bridge and Le Haye Sainte were the mainstays of many a WW2 battle , with the occasional Bellona Barbarian fort , Sherwood Castle and a Roman marching fort used as well

Yup. Got one upstairs myself.

We used one in our last blitzkrieg commander game, looks gigantic next to 10mm, but was nevertheless great!

I remember at the Penarth Club assaulting one of the big two gun turreted Atlantic wall ones in preparation for the Soviet strike into Denmark :) Great pieces the lot.

I'm now thinking a pontoon bridge would be really handy, for, errr, stuff...

Rivers. That's what pontoon bridges are good for.

I remember this emplacement - don't think I ever painted it, or at most just the sandbags round the gun. It was great for games because you could have troops running along the trenches to the block houses to throw grenades inside.

I did have the big two gun one - but it never seemed as good for games.
