Title: Somewhere Over the Channel, 1940
Post by: bigjackmac on 02 April 2015, 03:06:54 AM
All,

I played a monster dogfighting game this past Sunday: eight Spitfires vs eight Me-109s, four hours, 109 pictures, a lot of fun, but I'm worn out!

The report is very long, and I apologize for that, but I put quite a few insights into the rules in there.

And things got a little crazy...

For anyone interested, please check the blog at:

On a side note, I received my Pendraken package so I can finish my France 1940 forces.

V/R,
Jack

109 pictures ! :o :o :o

Stroll on, Jack...No wonder you were tired.
I'll try and come back and have a proper read at some stage.
Good for you for posting such a comprehensive report ! :-bd

Cheers - Phil.

Ooh, absolutely love this.

Handful of minis creating a stunning little battle.

Top notch. :-bd

Agreed. Whilst we all love to see giant battles with hundreds, thousands of minis on the table, etc., (which must take years to paint), its so beguiling and attractive to see how you can still have great fun with a few miniatures within a relatively short time and with relatively little effort.

Than you gentlemen, I appreciate the kind words and glad you enjoyed it.

It is refreshing that all I have to do to set up the table is throw out a sheet and pull out a few airplanes ;)

Knowing I was going to post the batrep here, I was a bit afraid prior to playing it out  :( :(

Given the heavy UK influence here in Pendraken-land, what was I going to do if the Luftwaffe had a better day than they did  :P :P

In any case, it all turned out right, and so hopefully all my Brit compatriots enjoyed watching Me-109s go down in flames under the rattle of Spitfire machine guns  :D :D  (**With respect, of course, to any Germans, it's just a game gentlemen).

I had a really good time and I'm looking forward to my next game, hopefully this weekend, likely USN vs IJA over/around/near Guadalcanal.

I also received a sack of Pendraken goodies, so I now have in my possession everything I need for KG Klink's Fall of France campaign, now I just need to get it painted and based...

V/R,
Jack

Very interesting game. By the looks of it the rules seem to be your own creation with some 5Core influence. What a great idea,

Good game, nice batrep and no need to worry about British reactions to a German victory, we're well past all that!

Apparently so, Shepherd Neame were accused of being racist but were cleared by the advertising watchdog

Beer Posters Can Mention The War (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/germany/1326257/Beer-posters-can-mention-the-war-rules-watchdog.html)

In the same vein, Brewdog made "Sink the Bismark" to regain their strongest beer in the world claim after Schorshbrau GmbH made a beer stronger than Brewdog's "Tactical Nuclear Penguin."

Nah, stuff it, I still want more!   :D

Shecky - Yes Sir, this is part of the 5Core family, so the activation roll, firing dice, and combat effects are all derived from there.

Ithoriel - You guys are killing me!  'Spitfire,' and 'Sink the Bismark' beer, eh? Fantastic!

Ronan - Take a look when you get a chance, and let me know what you think.

Getagrip - "4 hours with 6 minis ; lesson for us all I think." Not quite that bad, 16 minis.  I'm gald you're liking it, and I'll look to get another game in this weekend.

Jack

Good AAR Jack !

First, I found the rules a little "heavy", but when I kept reading, I changed my mind.
May I suggest this for "good shooters" ( Vets & Aces ..) : allow them to re-roll some shooting dice in the game. This won't make the fire too deadly, and will give them a bonus.

Ronan,

Thanks man, I appreciate it!

I promise the rules aren't heavy, but it is quite a bit of work running 16 airplanes by myself.  That's an interesting idea about the shooting re-rolls for Aces and Vets, I'll have to give it a try.

Take care.

Jack
