Just as a matter of interest.....
Does anyone else have problems reading text on the PC, first thing in the morning ?
I certainly do !
I thought Nosher was talking about "GRADING" his table, this morning.
What ?....How do you do that ?...Is this a wargaming phrase I haven't heard before ?
A re-read showed he was saying about his figures "GRACING" the table this evening.
Cheers - Mr Lazy Eyes. @-)
I do but its because I had varifocal lenses fitted to a pair of glasses which have too small a lense area to cope. Later I put my contacts in and use off the shelf reading glasses which work much better.

Yes and here's what my optician said:
As you age, your lenses lose elasticity. If you maintain a particular focus for any length of time and then switch focal length you will notice this more. I suppose when you wake your eyes have relaxed and therefor, when you force to do something close up (computer screen) they take a while to respond.
I only know this because I thought I was starting to go blind :-[
Yep. Definitely an age thing. I find I'm having to zoom in more to read posts at any time of the day. Although I have varifocals I still need to remove them when painting miniatures. This means I have to awkwardly bend my head down to see what I am doing, resulting in back ache and ultimately less incentive to paint. :( (and ironically, probably encouraging me to spend more time on wargaming blogs and forums on the computer which can't be great for my eyesight either!). My wife bought me a magnifying glass on a stand - didn't like it. I'm thinking, do I invest in an optivisor(?) or a pair of reading glasses? :-\ On the long list of the million other things I should be doing .......
I will have to remember this, and use it as an excuse for my crap painting. "I painted it just after i got up, honest gov,so me eye's wern't quite right".
No. At the moment my eyesight is okay, though I do require my spectacles to give the words and letters sharp edges.
Would it help if we all wrote BIG?
As it happens, I can read the above post without my spec's 8)

Should be fine with this then!
I have double vision for anywhere from 30 secs to about 4 minutes every time I wake up. Despite brain scans and eye tests the medics seem to have no idea why.

No problem with first thing, a little gritty but they function as they are supposed to.
I have a pair of glasses for looking for distance ie bus numbers more than 30 feet away, and reading glasses for painting and looking at shinies. Anything in between I am fine without my optical benefits. One thing, when I have an eye test I tell the nice man what my hobby is and roughly how far away from my eyes I hold figures to paint. He uses that distance for my reading glasses.
Apparently, a not uncommon medical thing is that as you get older and wear distance glasses your eyesight can recover somewhat, that's what the optician said to me last time.
My issue is painting and watching TV. I have my tablet in front of me whilst painting and I typically chain boxsets I've seen before. When I look up (occasionally) the delay in focus from mini to TV is quite pronounced and getting worse :(

No problem there for me. I don't/can't multi-task painting and TV, I get too easily distracted. Radio, however, is fine.
Long sighted since the year dot.
I can read road signs from about a mile...
It's hell when you're trying to be romantic though!!!

Long sighted since the year dot.
Just the opposite for me, Will......Shorter & shorter sighted from the age of 6....Seemed to settle down in my late teens, early twenties to the point where I could try contact lenses (the small, hard plastic version).......Mid thirties my eyes started changing shape ( :o...apparently !!) so the lenses were sloughing off the top layer of cells from my cornea (?) giving me constant problems !
Went to the opticians....."Well Mr Lewis, I've got some good news and some bad news.....The good news is that you won't have to pay for your eye tests anymore...The bad news is that's because you eyesight is so rubbish."
Reached the stage about 20 years ago that I began to have 'long sighted' as well as short sighted problems, which is why I rely so much on the optivisor nowadays.

I can recommend using lubricant eye drops first thing in the morning to revive the old eyes. Eyes can get very dry.
Also if you haven't already discovered how to zoom while browsing, Ctrl + and - are your friends.

And take a cod liver oil supplement. It'll take a while but should make a difference. Basically, lubricate the eyes with oil and water - as you would any equipment you regularly use for work ;D. I can recommend Systane Ultra eye drops over cheaper Boots-own as it has a longer use-by period, has a less-waste dropper, more gel-like, bla bla...

Simple, cost-effective answer. Don't read text first thing, leave it until after you've had breakfast and at least one cup of tea. :D
Don't do breakfast. :D
