First in a self-motivational series documenting my ECW army build. Irregular and potentially uninteresting to all perhaps, but a reason for me to Get it Done!!!
Part 1: glue men to coffee stirrers. I undercoat black, by hand. On Mondays. Watch this space for the next exciting instalment.
Oh, Plastic.....
You've given away the plot of the next episode ! ;)
Look forward to seeing them progress. :)
Cheers - Phil
Good luck and looking forward to seeing progress on this. I've tried something similar on the motivation front, but frankly it has failed miserably for me :'(.
Update: to avoid the aforementioned spoilers, I've just under coated them. Black. With a brush. No need for pictures. Next episode - The Forest of Death. Or brown.
May I ask why you undercoat by hand? I'd have thought life was too short not to use aerosols.

I never feel like I'm entirely in control with spray paint. The paint's either too warm, or too cold, or it's too windy, or it's raining, or it's dark ( don't have a garage, so have to spray paint outside). With a big brush and watered-down black paint, it takes me seven seconds to undercoat a figure. That, and I find it to be rather zen. My job is quite random, and I never know what I'll be doing day-to-day, so it's nice to sit down to a repetitive task in the evening sometimes.
I am thinking of having 'Life is too short not to use aerosols' put on a t-shirt though!
I wish I felt entirely in control when I use a brush!

I've had some unpleasantness when using spray paint - I think I'm just a bit clumsy when it comes to machinery! I always seem to miss bits as well. A friend of mine undercoats with white spraypaint and can't understand my methods at all.
Sorry, but neither of you are in control, I AM.
used to use an airbrush to undercoat, found it didn't give the needed coverage.

Never been able to get full coverage with a can - armpits and crotch often a problem (if someone doesn't run with that then the forum has been hijacked by Martians)

I haven't used spray undercoat for donkeys; had the same problem but both tablets and changing to a brush method of application sorted it out.
Plus spray undercoat for 10mm, just as fast with a brush so whats the point?.
Back on topic.
I'd like to think the suspense of finally seeing something painted is going to be worth the wait.

No donkeys in my ECW army, so we're okay. Ahem. Sorry.
I'll try to get some work done on these when I get in from work. Should have pictures up laters.
No, I definitely don't spend my time at work reading the Pendraken forum...

I fear it won't be.
I suppose that Scottish lancers were mounted on donkeys or equivalent nags?
They're mounted on haggises and so can only charge on mountainside and in the correct direction, on account of the legs.
Anyway...
Tomorrow's instalment: Newcastle's Whitecoats get, er, white coats.

Shall we hold the Front page?

I think that is just an ugly rumour! ;D

I wouldn't. I'm quite happy with how these are progressing though. I'm trying something new: a heavy drybrush with raw sienna darkened with some black as a shade layer I hope will tie everything together. The skin tone works pretty well over it. These figures are a joy to paint.

Certainly does, Plastic ! Progressing
very nicely. :)

Another supporter of the "faces and hands first" approach. Good show.

Yeah, I paint from the inside out.
I'm the opposite, Splodge the big colours on first then tidy up as you go along with the little colours. Flesh -if it's just hands and face are normally painted just before end.

I love the different methods we all use to achieve the same ends. Would you mind posting an example?
This would be a good subject for another poll. Anyone out there with more cyber-mojo than I'll ever have?

A challenge, eh?
Hardly! My kitten has more computer sense than I.
Not a particularly thrilling instalment; just the base coat of the erm, coats. Still, onwards and sideways.
Good stuff, Plastic.

Getting there, admittedly one pic at a time, but getting there. The excitement is like the Sahara...it's intense (geddit??)
Bdmtsch!
It's progress none-the-less, so not to be sniffed at.

Oh dear.
Got a nice chunk of time tomorrow night so inroads shall be made. Have to reiterate though, these little figures are the bee's knees.
And the cat's meow?
And the Dog's ?
The Dogs? Excellent restaurant :-)

How did that small dog produce all that? :D
Here's a nice fuzzy, dark photograph. Actually the blurred image makes the figures look much better than they really are.
They look pretty damn good. (Says he, with his nose pressed up against the screen !)

Thanks. I'm really taking my time with these. I tried to vary the colour of trousers, hats, etc, 'cos most of the coats will all be a variation of off-white. There's something perverse about painting that much detail onto something so tiny that really appeals.
I am sure they are brilliant, but they just look to me like men seen on a dark night from about a hundred yards away! :-\ :-\
Mollinary
This might be marginally better
Try resting them on a sheet of white paper to photo

Will do when I get home from work. I photographed them late last night and was getting too much glare against a white background under the electric lights. I'll take a picture while the sun's still up.
A white background can be very hard to photograph against - the camera will see all the white and cut down the exposure time, leaving the figures as dark blobs.
Try going with a medium coloured background - a green cutting mat works pretty well.
They look good in the second photo but it's hard to tell :(. Look forward to some 'better' pics soon, fingers crossed. But then I'm no David Bailey so can't criticise others attempts :-[.
Fingers crossed
Basically, I'm using a telephone to do all this (I don't have a computer at home)
Much better - can see them! I tend to use the phone and it's not great...
Definitely clearer !

Friends? I play with toy soldiers. And spend summer Sunday afternoons indoors painting 1 cm high figures.
;D ;D ;D ;D

Yes, my relations often remark on my "prison pallor".
So, 5 months after exposing the inside of my head, I felt like my concentration levels might extend to some musketeers from Denzil Holles' regiment at Edgehill.
Looking good, that man!
Cheers - Phil
Welcome back.
Nice work.
That's a good start. Just the other 10 infantry regiments and 'x' amount of cavalry and aunty hilary and you can call it a day. :)
Right. Three down: William Constable's, The Lord General's, and Denzil Holles'. My eyes! They see nothing!
Any chance of a little closer, Plastic ?
Cheers - Phil
Very nice chap
Any better?
Sorry, by the time I've reduced the file size to one that works, the figures look like something from crimestoppers!
Those look fine, Plastic....Thanks.
Cheers - Phil
Thanks so much for the feedback. Today's task is another blue regiment (probably Lord Saye and Sele's), followed closely by Essex. I seem to have built up momentum - rare for me; I shall exploit it while it lasts.
keep up the good work ;)
