Hello,
I just started what I'm sure will become an unwieldy collection of 10mm English Civil War figures.
2 small envelopes from Pendraken = 300 miniatures. Fantastic!
I've been messing about with toy soldiers since the late 80s, but this is my first foray into this scale.
That's the end of my disposable income, right?
Hell yeah it is! I'm considering making a sponge doormat so my wife doesn't hear the tell tale 'thud!' of a pendraken envelope whacking the floor!
Also, welcome to the forum, great bunch of people here!
Ditto with the welcome.
I came late to the forum as well, only started posting when I read about the new Mongol sculpts...and as they say, the rest is history.
Hope you are going to post some pics of your ECW chaps when they are painted.
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Yeah, I'll post photographs when I get a stand or two painted.
I can't get over the level of detail on the figures.
The intention is to have a go with the Black Powder Pike and Shotte rules.
I love the black powder rules, they are great fun!can't wait to see what you produce!
Welcome to the madhouse, Plasticoutsider.
Cheers - Phil
Hi, welcome to a forum I've found to be filled with fun, friendly and knowledgeable people ... you'll soon get used to the in-jokes, personal hobby horses and occasional outbursts of apparent insanity :)

I would have said occasional bursts of apparent
sanity not insanity.
Welcome. ECW with Black Powder could be a lot of fun. Am considering trying the Pike and Shotte version with the Italian Wars.
Hello there! BP is great!

I object to the use of the word "apparent" > :)
Welcome to the forum Mr Plastic - you are no longer an outsider.
Hello Mr Outsider,
May I add a hearty welcome to the forum. Just one thing - we don't tend to mention the "P" work (as in "P-outsider".) It's a bit like wearing a Tory rosette in Glasgow.
As for disposable income, there is a scheme whereby you can get your wages sent straight to Pendraken. Saves time. Leon has all the details.
Will you be sticking with the ECW, or will other ranges draw your attention?
Welcome, looking forward to seeing your first few stands.

My PhD was on 17th Century literature and nonconformist sects (yes, i really am that interesting...) so I developed a bit of an interest in the civil wars. I've got something of a non-linear mentality though, so I'm sure I'll end up deviating. My other (current) project is painting 15mm sci fi figures for Laserburn. And then last night I was working on some 1988 vintage Space Orks for Rogue Trader.
Variety is the spice of life they say!

I am horrified to realise that it's at least thirty years since I was running a Laserburn-based role play game at SESWC!
I still have the basic rules and the Imperial commander expansion and some of the figures.

Though its nice to see them all being re-released again
Sorry for turning the conversation away from Earth history! The Laserburn figures are terrific though.
I'm looking forward to immersing myself in Royalist and Parliamentary non-uniforms as an antidote to silver space suits and ray guns.
This forum appears to be the bee's knees.
Thanks for making me feel so welcome!
Welcome to the forum, PO. Diverge away - they can't touch you for it. As for disposable income - the time to worry is when the building society wants to know where this month's mortgage payment is. :o :o :o
Okay, as promised, my first attempt at 10mm. I generally paint in a 'loose' way, not sure if it works as well at this scale.
Works for me :)
Those look great! :)

Very nice work, and if your anything like me, that first complete stand has you hooked on the scale!

Thanks for all the encouragement! Yes, I'm hooked on the scale. I wanted to do a test stand so I had a finished product before launching into Newcastle's Whitecoats, or the entire New Model Army (which is an apt force to paint if you think about it...).
Just had a peak at your blog, Ric; there's some inspirational stuff on there. Glad I joined this blog.
They look pretty good to me, PO.
I've been painting 10mm since the early 90s and they look as good as (if not better than) anything I've ever done.
Can you do re-introductions?
My elongated absence from the forum can be explained thus:
Blimey! Ouch! :o
Yikes - not only have you seriously hurt your head, you need to adjust your horizontal / vertical hold ;)
Come on then...enquiring minds want to know...
Did the transplant work ?
Looks v. painful.
IanS
Well... I was toying with the idea of fabricating a glamorous motorcycle crash; however, I cut my finger, fainted (yes, I know, not very dashing) and hit my head off a corner wall.
My concentration levels were low over the summer, but I got back into painting via 20mm WWII figures, and now feel able enough to continue with 10mm ECW.
I can thoroughly recommend not touching your own skull.
OUCH !!.....Big time !
Glad you're feeling better, Plastic !
Cheers - Phil

Sadly no. I was dissapointed to note my intellect was similarly unaffected and remains, like my skull, good to soft.
seriously ouch! :o
What are we looking at? Is it the beard?
I think you're going to have to make up an number of increasingly implausible stories that you can recite for the many, many times you will be asked for the tale.

Best I've come up with so far is a knife fight with Opus Dei. I was in New York recently and got some approving glances from scary-looking people on the subway.
Looks very painful
Take care
Andy
ouchers... that is going to hurt! Glad you are on the mend
though maybe your good lady had realised how much you had been spending on toys. ;D ;D

I should start legal proceedings against Pendraken. Who new this hobby could be so bad for your health.

I wouldnt, that is a vicious cycle... Leon would have to increase the prices to cover the cost of his legal fees, you would then have to spend more money meaning you would be back to square one. :D
A vicious cycle.... a penny-farthing with teeth?
More likley a boneshaker - you wana 'old de door, or should I ?

Ian.....Please....Just wait....There's still about 50 coats to match up with their tickets at the moment. :D
Cheers - Phil.

Just a couple of tickets here Techno, when you're ready. Coats for ... The National Symphony Orchestra and the Brigade of Guards ;)
Ah......That explains the violin cases at the back. I was wondering who those belonged to. :D
Cheers - Phil
Ah, no those are on this ticket .... Machine-Gun Marciano and friends :-)
Thought they were a bit on the heavy side. :-\ ;)
Cheers - Phil
Here, Phil. I think I must be shrinking. My coat now reaches to my ankles and the sleeves come down to my knees. Or is there another explanation?
Have you been doing something hobbit forming Hertsblue?
;D ;D ;D
