Reading the Tannenberg book lots of references to the Germans advancing with Standards to the fore.  Can anyone put up a picture of the PPW20 standard bearer want to see if it can be used for 1914 games?

Duke Speedy of Leighton

If you dig up any if my FPW Prussian threads you will see the bare pole version.

Thanks for the link, nice looking figs.  I can't make out the standard bearer in any detail.  Any close ups ?

Duke Speedy of Leighton

Erm...
Couple hidden here if you zoom in. Have an explore through the Late 19th Crntury thread in the photos section and some of the other guys have painted some, maybe Nic's thread?

Thanks again. Do they have the wrap around blanket ?

Hertsblue

Yes, Si, it has the blanket-roll over the left shoulder. That's the main problem with the Franco-Prussian version. Some work with a needle-file would probably be needed for Tannenberg.
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

Might be easier then to convert one of the new marching poses rather than start chopping figures about

mollinary

 Si,

Before you start chopping figures about, there is a print of an original painting by Erich Dobrich showing the standard bearer of The "Semper Talis" battalion of the Foot Guards being wounded at St Gerard on 23 August 1914. He has no back pack, and has the rolled greatcoat over his shoulder just like the 1870 figures!

Do like :)  do you have a link to an online resource ?

mollinary

As you asked so nicely!   I found it in my copy of "Unsterbliche Treue" by Fiebig, which is a brilliant history of German military flags.   But I digress.  If you go to historischer-bilderdienst.de  then go the Fahnen, Flaggen und Standarten section, you will find Fiebig as about the fourth entry. Click on it.  As well as a broad description of contents you will also find a button labelled "Leucttisch". Press it and it shows you the colour plates in the book. Click on the one at the bottom right, and Bob's your uncle!  Good luck.

You know I am going to ask you where do I find the regimental standards for the 8 Infantry regiments making up I Korps in 1914

mollinary

Pleasure, it is always nice to share information with people who re interested.  I don't know off the top of my head which regiments you r looking for, but fortunately there was a thread here which covered this very issue last year. It was on the WW1/SCW Photos area, and was called "Home by Christmas Early Great War German Corps" . It is a long thread, with lots of interesting stuff on it, but what I think will help you is the link contained in my post of July 2nd 2013. It is a fantastic forum, and the Lezius link is outstanding. Sorry my technical incompetence precludes me putting the link to the post/thread in this post. :(

The Lezius link has been deleted from scribd. Probably copyright issues.
The home by Christmas thread is excellent and is the ones I am after were on that post for 1st and 2nd Divisions meaning
Grenadier Regt 1
Grenadier Regt 3
Grenadier Regt 4
Infantry Regt 41
Infantry Regt 43
Infantry Regt 44
Infantry Regt 45
Fusilier Regt 33
Uhlan Regt 8
Jäger zu Pferde 10

Are the flags in PNFL71 of any use in this quest ?

mollinary

Haven't got that  sheet.  The regiments you want are all illustrated on the forum in the European Section, under Imperial German Army Colours, on page 2 of the thread. All three grenadier regiments are shown, as is No 44. Regiments 33, 43 and 45 are all of the white pattern illustrated on the thread as for No 75.  The cavalry are shown on following pages.  Hope this helps,
