Does anyone know where a brother can buy a reasonably priced copy of this book?

Thanks

Hi Simon,

As you may know, I am, with John. Dz, one of the co-authors of the book. I am afraid the news is not good if you are looking to get a copy of the book for less  than its RRP.  Only a limited number have been printed, and all the copies of the first two small print runs have been sold.  There is currently a third under way, but I think it is unlikely to be discounted. As to its availability, I would suggest you contact Richard Brown, of Ken Trotman books (he is the publisher) as to when they are likely to be available.  It is a little difficult for an author, because it is so hard to predict what the demand will be for a niche subject such as this, and we were lucky that Richard was keen to produce it in the first place! Anyway, good luck with your search!

Well worth having, even at the full RRP, Simon.
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

Definitely worth shelling out for. Mine is well-thumbed and is informing games in two scales. Certainly the best wargaming book I've bought since A Day of Battle.

I'm happy to pay RRP just finding a copy is difficult.

Simon,

Then the thing to do is contact Richard Brown and reserve a copy of the next printing.

PS. I am sorry if I misinterpreted your initial post, but I know a lot of people expect to be able to get books on Amazon at reduced prices. With small print runs like this  that is not really an option.  I hope you are successful in your search.

The other author here.
Richard Brown is indeed having a third print run done and has promised that it will be ready for the middle of July as I am leading a tour of the 1866 battlefields in the Czech Republic at the end of July, so that those on the tour can have the opportunity of getting it to read before they travel. As Mollinary says, contact Richard Brown at Ken Trotman and urge him to hurry the reprint up.
There are two problems with the cost; one is the small size of the print run, the other is that with a proper book with every page photo quality, it is expensive to produce. The advantage is that the photos and sketches can be placed where they logically belong within the text and are not in  an insert in he middle of the book. There are certainly cheaper books on 1866 and the cost is reflected in the quality of the maps and illustrations.
We have just returned from a recce of the battlefields with a view to starting the process of gaming every aspect of the battle of Koniggratz which will then turn into the follow on volume  to The Opening Battles. We aim to run the games throughout the autumn and hopefully (although hope is not a method) get the finished article printed in the spring or early summer of 2015.
