Depends where they're holding it. As a city, Aukland's pretty spread out. It's a fair old bus ride from the centre to the outskirts.

Battlecry is normally held in the upper part of town at the University in the Grafton area by the hospital.  In NZ terms its one of the smaller events and usually caters for local crowd with a focus on a small EW FOW event, probably some 40k and WFB and maybe a smattering of other games all up if they get 40-50 people they will think they are doing well.

If your still in NZ at Easter our main Nationals is being held in Christchurch that along with Call to Arms in Wellington in August are our two main events with 150 or so people mostly of whom are competing.

PS: If your in the deep south travelling in the Mt Cook/Waitaki Valley area drop me a line at rexhurley@paradise.net.nz as I can show you around potentially get you some good rates at our local motor camp (I'm assuming your travelling in a mobile camper) show you some sights and share some home cooked meals etc for a break from travel fare.  Can also arrange some hunting, and trout/salmon fishing too dependent on season.

Sadly Rex we will not be heading south as the in-laws are up by Mangonui and friends are in Pukekohe and Palmerston North. So I will still not have visited the south island 

Might be able to get a day on my own to go to the show, would be interesting to get an idea of the NZ gamers, as we may be relocating in 5 years or so.

As for Palmie enjoy the wind and the rain its not full of Jaffa's but is a sad cold wet miserable place  but then being from the mother country you might feel right at home 

Do emigrate if you get the chance mate you wont regret it just dont go to Jaffaland to live though

Hi, yes the convention is definitely worth a visit if you are coming to Auckland. All the local clubs will have players there and it would be a good way to meet some of the locals. It has over 300 competitors in over 20 different events and it's the 30th anniversary of BattleCry for the 2014 event. It's moved location from the University someone else mentioned about 8 years ago since it now gets so many players and a large number of spectators coming through to look at the event. It easily hit 600 people through the doors each year now. It's held at the ASB Stadium in Kohimarama, Auckland.

The 2014 wargaming line up so far includes Flames of War-Late War, Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 40K, Field of Glory-Napoleonics, Field of Glory- Ancients/Medieval, Moderns, Warmachine, Blood Bowl, Malifaux and X-Wing. There are a couple of other events we are in the process of confirming which will go up onto the website once we have event details and player packs confirmed like Kings of War. If you are into board gaming there will be a big area for that too including some of the GMT long time strategy games. They set and start the games on Friday night and try to have them finished by the end of Sunday.
