Anyone played Impetus?

What are your thoughts about them?

We're about to give them a go.

Malbork

I've downloaded the basic version but have yet to play as I can't decide whether I need to rebase and their bases seem a little large to me  :-\

Fenton

Hi

Yeah I play them but only the basic version, plays really well, I play in 6mm and use 60x30 for everything, the depth doesn't make much difference, I have also played it in 15mm with 80mm wide bases plays exactly the same ..I wouldn't worry to much about rebasing
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Ferb

My favourite set of ancients rules. The free basic set gives you a feel of the game but the full version adds lots of nice touches.

Wulf

I also play the basic version, but with various bits added in from the full rules, and army lists made from the full lists!

Not the simplest of rules, but the Basic ones are simpler, and the effect overall is very nice. I'm especially fond of the Large Unit rules.

Genom

It's a good set of rules, nice and easy to pick up (Once you've figured out the cohesion test) harder to master though.

Zippee

I play them - a lot, totally rekindled enthusiasm in ancients around here after a long period of doldrums.

Liked them enough to rebase several thousand figures

I know the basic version is free but the full version has so much more depth it's well worth the investment - the only downside is the sometimes quirky language due to the oddities of translation

Personally I'm eagerly awaiting Barroque - the renaissance era set

I played the free version once or twice, but hadn't got the feel for it entirely.

Off course, one game is not enough to make clear judgement. i used tokens to represent the units though, you could do the same to test it out. Using different sized tokens printed from junior general also allows you to judge if you need to rebase or not  ;)

Play ancients, medieval and Italian Wars using the full hit. Great set of rules and I particularly like the idea of the large diorama bases. Have 28s on 100mm frontage, 15s on 80mm frontage and 10s on 60mm frontage. I also use the 10mm armies for DBA where I count them as 28s for movement, ranges etc. That way a DBA army actually looks like an army.

Yes, I do prefer the bigger numbers on bigger bases (but by using 10mm figures, not TOO big bases, leaving plenty of space to manoeuvre...)
